Kafir lime leaves are very hard to source.

Asian supermarkets are a wondrous thing.. You go in there looking for something specific and walk out with jars containing things you can't pronounce..

There are three in Durban North alone here, google for your area, they must have stuff like lime leaves and galangal. And proper Thai paste.

I don't believe there are any in Helderberg. There's a few top ones in CPT that I know of. I'm running perilously short of sesame oil so may be time to pay a visit.

ottery has a nice grocery store and n1 city ..but thats far for you

The best one I've been to is up in Bloubergstrand, it's a whole Chinese mall. They have a stunning frozen section too. And the Korean shop in Mowbray is quite cool as well.

i have never bought anything other than noodles ..need to try some other stuff

just wont try the pre-packed chicken head and feet :p

Alright let me stop past there and check, it's on the way home.

If you do, look for szechuan peppers, dried galangal and lemongrass. Then you can make some awesome Thom Kha Gai as well as some chili oil to garnish.

I'd like to get some rice noodle sheets as well and try some dumplings. Lemongrass is cheap and plentiful in shops here.

I always stock up on this chili sauce as well, it's much nicer than sriracha imo:
