Ive been seeing Telkom advertising some kind of next Gen. internet lines..
Does anyone know what its all about as i dont see any price advertising ECT. on the adverts!?!?!?

I have heard rumors 1Gbs wireless. Or they are still working on it. From my understanding with the IEEE standards, Wireless is always one step behind Ethernet networks. So with 10Gbs Ethernet being worked on currently, so is 1Gbs wireless.

Ye, its all just marketing, I dont think they commiting to any promise to faster adsl lines. probably just PR cause they decided to do maintenance and upgraded some old switch they had sitting somewhere.
Just to make you think telkom is the best...

The add talks about fiber, so I don't know how it could be wireless.

Its the add about the girl on the little steam train that turns into a futuristic train. After the debacle of neotel we can only hope for something good, but it'll probly be crapola

i did stop a telkom techie today- asked him wtf they doing on every corner. he didnt wanna say- but as soon as i asked if it has to do with the line speed doubling he said yes, there installing cabling for that next gen network and it should be up and running in the 2nd week of december. well, i think it will be installed- not yet "activated". but he did say that the cable could handel allot more than just doubling the line speed- he's exact word were- "its up to the top guys to decide how much faster they want it, 2-, 3- or more times". So..... lets wait and see..............................

There were telkom vans on every corner, everywhere here today also.

it's weird how there are no telkom techie insiders on this forum ?

maybe they are all sworn to secrecy or something :p

There is one on here.
Spoke to a Telkom Internet operator and when asked about the line speeds and upgrades coming he pointed me towards MyBB Forums. Told him I am semi-active here too. Says he is active on the forum but not allowed to really comment on any of the Telkom related stuff.

Non-disclosure agreement or something.

Garyvdh has some inside info and apparently it was due October but due to certain factors it will now only materialize in the first quarter of 2010.

Still holding thumbs for X-mas surprise from Telkom.

It seems to be a copy of the BT British campaign.

whats a bet december becomes march? :)

they're prolly talking about the city to city fibre they have planed/pulled/laid. anyway, this 'ngn' talk has been recycling for ages. remember that ad with the todlers having to squeze thru this narrow blue pipe to get to the swing-set, then like, 'thanks to next generation network' the pipe expands and the swing-set becomes a theme park?

The techies are busy here as well. I'll take them some alcohol next time they're at the exchange and try to get the truth out of them;)

The techies don't really know what they are actually doing anyway. Yes, Telkom employees sign a "business code of ethics" and with these ethics, do not post on the forum. MyBB users will flame the hell out of those poor employees anyway.

I believe the ad campaign is pure brand awareness, marketing fluff nonsense. Who says Telkom will provide anything.. and if they do, it will be for corporates. If you want consumer stuff, look at the DOwhatever range. Telkom is doing everything currently for the FIFA world cup - yes, including adding capacity on specific DSLAMs etc. They are currently a FIFA network provider with some phone and data stuff on the side :D

I also thought that but then there's a contradiction in the (rumoured) dates of this being implemented. So far, most predictions have indicated the consumer upgrades will happen before the world cup:confused:.

*Sigh* Hopefully, after the world cup, all these upgrades will be fully transferred to the consumer
