Normally thats around 300ms. I try download something using FDM I would normally get around 900K/sec Im getting 100K/sec...

I have spoken to Telkom, they reset my port... Still the same.

Any ideas? :(

oh and Ive tried openweb, webafrica and webonline... all the same issue

Mine has been like this for 3 weeks. I have 4 different accounts with different service providers, including Telkom, and they all exhibit the same thing. My exchange is tiny (less than 30 ADSL connections) so I hardly think its congestion. I have logged 4 fault reports requesting someone come here and prove to me that I am getting what I pay for and they just close the fault saying all is fine. Nobody comes even after they phone to see if I will be on site when the technician arrives. Asked them to escalate to the network division because the router sync speed is correct nothing happens, its like the speaking to the Walking Dead.

Check the ADSL line quality stats. You might also consider temporarily dropping the speed a bit. Like 6mbps for testing.

If that doesn't help then yes congested exchange is likely. ftl :/

edit: I assume you've checked whether something is downloading in the background, right?

I'm also getting beasted. I've got a 4mb adsl line with Telkom and a 4mb uncapped account with MWEB, and I've been getting 0.32mbps download and 0.26mbps upload. Called MWEB twice and went through all my settings - nothing seems to be out of place. Managed to get through to Telkom support and they reset my port, but to no avail. Logged a fault with them - not sure what else I can do.

this is total BS. I want something done about this, otherwise Im seriously gonna throw my toys!

ive been testing all day with different accounts, even this weird account that openweb gave me to test with... same story.

Im actually getting over 1000ms ping now lol what a joke

Heading off to Telkom tomorrow to get this dealt with, and I swear Im gonna rip that shop one solid until they give me details of someone who is gonna give me some more info on what the hell is going on

no dude, im sync'ing at 10mbps down, and 1mbps up and Ive never had an issue with noise margins/signal strength etc etc

see below pasted from my router

noise margin upstream: 6 db
output power downstream: 10 db
attenuation upstream: 16 db

noise margin downstream: 15 db
output power upstream: 19 db
attenuation downstream: 24 db

I have the same problem but am on 1 mb telkom adsl. It started on the 30 th and i put if off to normal end of the month, when people try to suck their caps dry. But it is still not right. What is weird is that when i log in to check my bandwith useage. It says i have used zero? Anyone else have this?

HTC_Guy:
Your upstream SNR (noise) margin is very low.

If you change your modulation to G.Dmt, it would sync at 8Mbps and then hopefully your upstream noise margin would be like 10dB+.

I think there's something wrong on the Telkom network (possibly one of the undersea cables). For over a week, our company's site (which is hosted overseas) has been impossible to work with if I try connect as normal. If I go through cache.saix.net, it works fine.

well another night of this and I guess Im gonna have to live with it until Telkom actually get back to me...

500ms ping, what a joke

Pada, I cant seem to change that setting on my router, its almost like its auto or something.

:(

Yeah i am in the same boat as you HTC. The wife and i can't even open two facebook pages on a 1 meg line without one timing out. My sons lag on Wow jumpted from a stable 240 to 1800. nice -_-

Lord, I thought I was the only one, here in the Waverley (PTA) area, things aren't much better.
My ping is hardly ever below the 450ms, and my dl speed at a whopping 0.5mb/s (supposed to be 10mb/s).
At one stage last night my upload speed was actually faster than my download speed.
