What's wrong with S.A rice?

Guys, I'm new to this country, I'm from East Africa.
I live in Cape Town.

I have been trying to cook rice, but I always end up throwing it into the bin.

Why? The rice feels like plastic, especially when it gets cold.
Someone told me the reason is that most S.A rice is not as quality as what we eat from East Africa.

All am asking is which/where brand of rice is the best? I have been told if I want quality rice I should look around grocery stores owned by Indians, Malawians etc. But can't find them in the neighbourhood.

Below is the rice which I have been trying to cook. I bought it from Pick n Pay. It tastes very bad.

Maybe you just dont know how to cook rice.

Get a rice cooker, it will do it right each time. Each type of rice is different to cook.

We only use Thai Fragrance Jasmine rice in my household. Got a Philips rice cooker. Works like a charm. With Thai you have to rinse it off 3x before you cook it though.

I know what you talking about, I can't also stomach the taste of Asian rice as I'm already used to our brands of rice here.

As others said, ours is much better, it's more firm and not mushy and has more taste.... Keep on eating it you will get used to it.
That means you cooked the asian rice wrong. Below is Jasmine properly cooked.

But that is most starches?
A boiled potato is pretty bland?
Apiece of white bread is pretty bland with nothing on?
Same with rice and pap. You have to add something over it.
Thats why Jan is around.

Because after we had a big pow-wow with the Pope about not burning everyone at the stake, who came up with an idea. (like the Vogons - yes our version of government official).

We decided to leave our sunny Russian holiday resort, went back to Amsterdam, built some wooden ships, and sail around the world to buy spices. So that the food no longer will taste so bland.

And then the Spanish brought Tomatoes from South America as a medicinal item, however lo and behold the Italians thought it was poisonous and refused to eat it. My, how has times changed.

So at one stage, Pepper was worth far more than gold. Because who would honestly have another piece of tasteless steak.

So we made $7 trillion, employed half the world's population and everyone got to eat, nicer tasting food....thank you.

In case you dont know who Vogons are.

Watch this....

and this is where they live

I haven't cooked it yet.
Today I wanted to experience the South African fishes...

Is that fish dipped in tomato sauce? And you complain about our rice?
If you want a sauce with fish dip in in Mayo or a tartar sauce or a lemon and butter sauce. But hell tomato sauce with fish? Thats like eating pork or chicken with tomato sauce, gross.

Have to concur, Fish = tartar sauce or at the very least a good mayo. Def not Hellmann's.

Get Nur Jahan white basmati rice.

I buy a 20Kg cloth sack of that every month from Gorima's Spice Shop.
Boil the rice as usual. Add salt to taste while it's almost done boiling (This prevents it from getting sticky), then a teaspoon of butter ghee after you strain it.
I usually roll them into small balls and eat them as is.
20kg rice from Gorimas, what you paying something like R500?
