WhatsApp dark mode coming to Android

WhatsApp is developing a dark mode for its Android application, WABetaInfo reports.

The latest beta version of the app (version 2.19.282) includes information regarding the platform's upcoming "Dark Theme" feature.

Saves battery life if you don't have to light up so much white screen area. Oh, and white letters on a dark screen is so much healthier for your eyeballs.

I can't stand bright apps and OLED screens basically made dark modes a must given how good their black levels are.

The main reason I bought my OnePlus 5T is because at the time OxygenOS was one of the only stock mobile OS's on the market that had a dark mode option.

Dark mode use to be a thing back in the pre-Galaxy S3 days ... I was livid when Google removed it.
Glad to see it make a comeback.

Only applies to OLED screens....so if you have a Samsung (most of their models tend to have OLED), then it will be beneficial for your battery life. Other models, doubtful.

Why is a dark theme so special these days?

I hope there's a time soon where all software by default has full customization options. Let me colour & layout the buttons and toolbars how I want. Though probably more so on desktop software than mobile apps.
