I am trying to install WhatsApp for tablet, when download from WhatsApp site, it says it is not compatible with the device. The plain WhatsApp cost R50.

Have you tried downloading from the playstore?
What do you mean by the R50?

Yes, I was in play store. There is WhatsApp (prize R50) and WhatsApp for tablet. When you click on WhatsApp for tablet, it tells you to download from WhatsApp site direct. When you do that, it says, version is not compatible. Android 4.4

WhatsApp removed support and availability for tablets in December, I had it on my N8000 then it stopped working and I couldn't upgrade to the new version.

From the below link - We currently do not support tablets or Wi-Fi only devices, and do not plan to do so in the foreseeable future..

I think the problem is, play store see this device as a tablet. Where can one change the device. There is only WhatsApp for tablet. No normal WhatsApp.

Are you sure you have the official Play Store on the phone? I have never seen any Galaxy Note not identify as a phone, that includes 2 Note 4's I set up last week.

What version of the Play Store are you showing in settings?

Where are you finding a WhatsApp version that costs? It is free. Download it directly from https://web.whatsapp.com/ and transfer it to your tablet and install (you have to allow packages from unknown sources.)

Got it on a contract. Download it from Android geek, then install it. So working now. When looking at about device, it show as tablet.
Geek took me to WhatsApp site
