WhatsApp on iPod Touch / iPad

Pardon me for what might sound like a stupid question but why is it that I cant install WhatsApp on my iPod Touch? I recently bought an iPod Touch and realised I cant legitimately install WhatsApp on it. I found some directions online on how to install it after a jailbreak but would someone know why WhatsApp do not have an iPod or iPad version of the app? I have Hangouts, Skype, Viber (which requires phone number activation just like WhatsApp) installed and they work perfectly and I don't see why WhatsApp (or Apple in that case) would choose to restrict the app to one class of iOS devices

Whatsapp is linked to your telephone number, not a psueodym account like Viber/Facebook etc. I like that approach because it automatically adds your phone contacts. In the past I had it on an iPod Touch but it didn't work because you'd need a data connection for out and about.

there is an easy way to do it. you need an iPhone to do the first registration.
just google it. easy to do but a pain in the butt as iTunes will delete every time you sync.
