WhatsApp copies Signal's Note to Self

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature to iOS and Android users that lets them send messages to themselves, parent company Meta Platforms told TechCrunch.

WhatsApp's Message Yourself feature puts the user's contact at the top of the list when creating new messages.

Before the Message Yourself feature, users could only send themselves messages by creating a group in which they were the only member or by using third-party “click to chat” apps.
? I've been doing this for ages by adding myself as a contact and sending messages to myself in whatsapp. No need for groups or apps.

Oh clever.

I often have a link or image I need to use later so would be very nice to just send to myself
Often I just send to the wife and say - pls ignore I just need this for later.

Its also the fastest way to transfer between my phone and PC - using watsapp web

But if you have WhatsApp web on your PC, it duplicates everything on your phone, text and pictures

On an iPhone, attaching the phone to a PC via a USB cable lets you view and copy all the contents in the DCIM (photos) folder

Been doing this for ages

I originally did it to get around youtube and ads - if played through whatsapp there's no ads. But then it became far more useful as a way to send myself stuff to check out later etc. Especially when viewing stuff on my phone that I want to get back to later it makes more sense than using pushbullet.

You still have to send it to someone

Yuck. Some secrets are best kept that way

Telegram has saved messages

Can you schedule these messages? Could be useful

Telegram has scheduled messages. I set reminders for myself like this quite often

Also, dont send your SO a scheduled message while you are sleeping. Especially if that message says "I see you"

I send voice notes to my audio diary that is on my 3rd WhatsApp account.

The world has gone bananas … this is just a definition of crazy

microsoft kaizala has been doing this neat feature for a long time.Either way something useful for once.

Telegram Saved Messages have been legendary for this.

Good of WhatsApp to catch on.

Use it on Teams. Usually before I have a meeting I send a bunch of notes to myself. I delete it once I'm done with the meeting, or edit it if there are still outstanding items.

Teams has something called "loops", which is a post that can be shared with others, and they can edit it as well. I copy these loops to myself as well so I have it all in one place. If the loop is not needed anymore I delete the link.

Can also use Power Automate to schedule a message you only want to read the following day.

Sometimes use it to quickly send photos or stuff between PC and Phone.

Anyways, Teams / Microsoft is very powerful.
