WhatsApp

I have WhatsApp running on my phone on a permanent basis....have not noticed any effect on my Berry....bless it. :-)
Yeah not talking about running in background, try using it a lot. You will see your battery go down.
Been chatting the last few days to someone on Whatsapp, after long conversations, the battery is almost dead, however on BBM it doesnt happen.

Stop sending naked pics of yourself to all the females in your phonebook then! *grin*

Or at the very least add me to that mailing group! tsk! *larger grin*

I like the concept, just not the execution. The missus and I tried it to keep in touch with iFriends overseas but it was too buggy and unreliable so we ended up deleting it. Many of them have since moved across to the bberry anyway so it's no biggie.

What in the world is iFriends? We are talking about whatsapp in this thread.

I find the blackberries just too slow to keep up, obviously the app running in the background is too much for it.

It works fantastic on a mobile OS that can properly multitask & proper hardware.

That is what I have experienced on Blackberries as well. And the applications themselves feel very 'laggy' compared to apps on iPhone or Android devices.

You're talking about from a Blackberry right? Or iPhone?

There have been numerous Bb WA updates to fix problems.

Don't know anyone who's had problems with it on iPhone.

I chat a lot with a friend that has an iPhone 4 & the WhatsApp messages are always instant. Just a pure joy to use.

I'm a BIG Whatsapp fan and have been advocating it to everyone I know. I've cut down on SMS costs drastically. I prefer WhatsApp to MXit since it's a lot easier to get into to read messages and it actually uses your phone's native details to validate user information, so no physical login is required. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the most elegant.

Both but it also seemed pretty pointless running it on the iPhone when I have a blackberry with all that uncapped goodness. It's one of the few apps that I've ever experienced issues with on the blackberry.

It's a moot point now anyway since most of our friends switched over to BBerry here and abroad. One of the last holdouts just sent me his PIN number this morning. :D

Uncapped goodness is a moot point, 1000 messages works out at like R4. :p Pics/vids/sounds excluded of course. And I'd rather pay a little and get a full blown Internet experience, unlike Blackberry's diluted version. ;)

Anyway, that's off topic. Blackberry is awesome for BBM and uncapped diluted Internet with limited file sizes in emails/apps, probably suited them in the beginning if they are chatterboxes who need BBM, unless they too now have both? Don't blame them for keeping their iPhones. :D

I get 1000 free sms's per month so not much use here. Will only be cheaper for other friends to contact me with whatsapp.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll definitely use it from now on. The only drawback to it is that you need either an iPhone, BB, Nokia or Android device. No Windows Mobile support it seems, and loads of my contacts have Windows phones. Other than that, this is brilliant. :D

Also prefer this to MXit now as MXit doesn't provide you with notifications. :)

damn it says my free trial will expire 26 jan 2012
Didnt know yo will have to eventually pay for it

( Android )

R14 a year doesn't seem like much now does it. :p

Dont have a smartphone...yet :( But my wife and a couple of mates do and they use Whatsapp.

Sorry to hear that, but you can fix that quickly with the Red Bull Mobile promotion.

I think it's the best & cheapest smartphone package available in SA today.
