WhatsApp

Been using it for the past 4-5months on my X10 and it works just fine, i buy a 2.3GB monthly bundle, and couldn't give a dam about those underpowered BBs and their tiny screens (Torch included :p) . Havent had any battery issues when using it and it hardly does any damage to my bundle. :)

you need a 2GB bundle with android??? :confused:
 
Nope, 500mb is more than enough for browsing, social networking, emails and IM on Android, but i do a ton of music downloading, YouTube downloading and streaming, and use my X10 as my laptop and 5800 modem.
 
I downloaded WhatsApp in December at the recommendation of a friend, but all I got was a blank list of contacts and no way to add contacts, or find people. It was very disappointing and I gave up on it and deleted it.
After reading this thread I tried again, and this time it must have installed properly, because it did the whole setup automatically and I was ready to chat.
So far it's looking pretty good.

Re: Battery Life. I've seen no difference in battery life on my Torch since I started using it. And it is constantly running in the background. I still get maximum 2.5 days out of my battery when not using it extensively.

For someone who has a phone that is using the internet constantly to update you email and other apps you wont see much battery difference as your phones normally connected to the net 90% of the time. For older phones that are constantly now connected to wap etc it CHOWS the battery!..

3 of my friends and I group chatted for one whole innings of cricket the other day. commenting on what was happening etc.

iphone battery usage in those 50 overs (3.5 - 4hours) = 34% battery usage (over wifi, while also browsing on my phone).

So yes, leaving it open all the time, and 24/7 chatting will drain the battery. Then again, what do you expect?

When you use this to basically just send 3 or 4 texts to someone like an SMS and then minimize it, there's almost no battery drain.

I agree, i'm just backing up what marine1 said. If you don't minimise and just chat away for hours, it will drain the battery more.
 
Well after a few days of testing it I have to say that this app is brilliant. Doesn't make a real difference regarding battery usage and I'm saving a huge amount on SMS costs. Recommend it to anyone with a compatible phone. :)
 
Does anyone know what the cheapest phone available that Whatsapp can run on?
 
Also just recently gotten the iphone and whatsapp... awesome application. even sending pictures etc is cheaper than mms... haven't reached 1mb of usage yet...
