When to be forthcoming about criminal record

So after months of looking for a new job, submitting who knows how many CV's, scouring Pnet daily for new jobs for which I can apply, I have finally gotten my first interview. Best of all it was for a job that was listed here in the jobs section, not on Pnet. I did however state in my CV that I have a record etc, so hopefully it goes well.

LinkedIn is probably the best place to get IT jobs right now.

from the one hand i'd say, tough to gain society trust after committing a crime.
but from the other hand, if people dont give X a chance, whats to say they wont re-offend and do crime again.

so as always nothing is black or white, just many shades of grey.

Nothing ever happens on Pnet.
I would have thought they are the best place to look for positions, I do get notifications for LinkedIn as well, but due to my limited experience and obviously my criminal record, I never get any feedback from them, but I have also not gotten any responses from Pnet job ads as well.

If I still entertained the idea of a company needing me, then the company who contacted me will have had their 4230th interview with me this month.

When they asked for a third interview I told the person you don't know what you are looking for.

I have read through this whole thread, If I were you, I wouldn't focus much on the criminal record. Unless if asked, I don't see the point of saying it upfront. If they ask you about the criminal record, just be truthful, if they say no, just move on.

Eventually you will find a company that won't ask.

Change for username, walk away from the convict image in your head. You are not a criminal anymore.

The only problem with not disclosing it, there is a 19 year gap in my works history, so the question comes up about my work history, so that is the only reason why I included it in my CV.

What kind of placements?
I have placed people in IT, Finance, Medical, R&D etc. if you know how to use it to your advantage LinkedIn is a very powerful tool. - Don't want to derail this thread so going to leave the conversation there.

Not many people change direction in life like you seem to have done. I've nothing but respect for that. Let us know how things work out, don't give up trying and all the best for Monday!

Thanks for the kind words mate, I will let the thread know how it went.

:ROFL::ROFL: Unfortunately that's not quite how it works when it comes to the big IT players. I had 8 separate interviews for my last position - and it's not uncommon to do a loop with 5-6 back to back interviews either - each focussing on a speciality.

People have other things happening in their lives. 8 interviews is over the fookin limit. Hope it was worth it.:(
