When will iBurst reduce prices or increase caps?

why can't iburst do R50/gig on par with adsl?

The expensive part of adsl is line rental!

WTF is R199/gig?

What are we paying for?

bandwidth is bandwidth right?

Nope, not quite. ADSL is actually NOT R50/Gig. Or R29/Gig. You need to add all the line rental stuff in before you can compare apples with apples. Have a look at the tables on this forum and you'll see that ADSL is substantially more expensive for the 1st Gig than iBurst. Even at 384Kb/s.

But where it swings is where you start topping up. And this is the dominant thing people have been asking us to look at, the top-up and OOB pricing.

As to the '100-days'; Yes, it's up and as I've stated before new products will appear as soon as the billing engine is stable. Which is kinda soon now. *touch everything made of wood...*

Also, I'd probably try to attend that mother of all Broadband conferences coming up soon. Might just hear a couple of interesting things there. ;)

but iburst does not have line rental!
so actual per gig prices are way more expensive!

is it just me who sees it like this?

I know this is probably impossible and improbable but couldn't iburst work like telkom in the way that we pay monthly for our hardware + our connection(think it would be fair) and then use data accounts from other isps?

Huh? you are sugesting that iBurst can compete with ADSL!? LOL

Even if you add all the costs of ADSL up and then look at the iBurst pricing , ADSL is still faaaaar better... Do you know why?

Its because with ADSL youget what you pay for, if you pay for a 512kb/s you get a line that can operate at 512kb/s 24/7... with iBUrst you get no assureance of a 24/7 connection and you do not even get to taste that 1mb/s that iBurst offers...

Stop blowing your own trumpet here, your technology is old and yes while ADSL line rental may be more expensive its because its in a leage that far exceeds iBurst's playground.

mmm well all i want is a bigger cap. and better throttled speeds maybe 128k or 200k would be ****en amazing

Not a bad idea. It would make comparing apples with apples much easier for everyone.

Agreed:

The current pricing (excluding OOB) could be adjusted to something like

  • Monthly down payment on modem R100 (First 24 months only)
  • Monthly minimum charge excluding modem cost, including 1GB R130
  • Additional 1GB: R50, with 3 month usage rollover

First 24 months the first GB would cost R230, thereafter a mere R130 per month. (Or own modem = R130 pm minimum contract value from day 1) This is what I would call transparency and value for money!

Obviously, PrePaid would need to be adjusted accordingly :-)

If you think about it this could also attract potential customers because rite now telkoms prices are highish because you have to have a voice line which costs at the least R131 p/m. With iburst there is no voice line and line rental which would mean lower prices. Of course if poeple are going to be using ibursts infrastructure but bandwidth from another isp there should be a monthly connection fee unless we still use you international bandwidth but buy a local account from one of the other isps.

You cant compare iBurst and ADSL on a 'apple to apple' basis...

The iBurst technology as stated by many people throughout many threads is old, the service is intermitant and slow with a high local latency...

ADSL - a copper wire/fibre based technology far exceeds any point iBurst could ever compete with on the same level.

While ADSL may be more expensive than iBurst in some areas its because ADSL is BETTER, generaly you pay more for the better things in life... Although ADSL is currently overpriced so is iBurst.

Look at it this way:

With iBurst you get

- A connection that is affected by weather
- A connection that has proven itself time and time again to have high local latencys
- A intermitant connection i.e its not always on 24/7 resulting in loss of cap in some cases
- Their system is extreemly unstable and ALL their customers have been affected by this
- Their customer service is vertualy non-existant

With ADSL you get

- A choice in ISPs
- A connection that remains stable for months
- You get what you pay for i.e you pay for a 512kb/s line you get a 512kb/s line
-The coonection is NOT affected by weather
- Low local latencys

Just comparing the wireless technology of iBurst to the copper and fibre of ADSL.... there is such a big gap...

So looking at all this even though ADSL can be more expensive than iBurst its worth much much more.

If we look at iBursts prices they are actualy too high for what you get from them, instead of paying R 449 for 3GB on iBurst it sould be around R 300 or less because of the instability of their network.

So to iBurst - STOP trying to stand on the same ground as ADSL, it just shows that you know notihng about the services, ADSL is worth more so you pay more iBurst is worth very little so you should pay less, less even than you are currently charging.

yeah selling a sucky service at insane prices is bound to FAIL....

especially since all the exciting things are happening on the ADSL side (where as iburst is a dying technology...)

I'm one of the people who can't get ADSL.

Not even reliable Vodacom or MTN 3G.

Can get Neotel, but it is worse in the area than iBurst.

In fact, I'm quite happy with iBurst where I stay. Speeds and reliability is excellent. Can't complain.

I'm with you mate...

No ADSL available in my area, and iBurst has served me fairly well over the years. But I wouldn't mind seeing some more gigs for my rands...hint JvZ;)

I am also happy with iBurst. No billing issues or signal problems for 3 years. (Touch wood).

I have Vodacom 3G for my laptop, but the signal sucks in my area.

I don't wanna give Telkom my R131 for a voice land line, so no ADSL for me.

It boils down to quality of signal with iBurst, if you've got it, it works well.

If you're a gamer, take ADSL.

If you can get a good signal with Vodacom 3G, go for it. It has more coverage than iBurst.

iBurst meets my needs for now. The only problem is my wallet doesn't cover iBurst...:(

*pffft* R199/1GB...

I just need another extension cable for my aerial and cheaper cap, and then I would be more than happy with Iburst. ;)

You seem to forget that we live in South Africa... a country with a HUGE market for USED TELKOM CABLE!

ADSL is awesome, I loved it!
But every 3 months I was gracefully relieved of my dearly beloved copper wire. When iBurst has issues, its fixed in a couple of hours, when my cable gets stolen, it takes telskum 4 months to replace it.

This is why in some cases iBurst is better than ADSL. And as far as speed is concerned, when I'm within my cap, I can't tell the difference between my friends ADSL line and my own iBurst connection.

For a wireless service, iBurst kicks A**!!! If they can bring down the prices, they'll have it made!

I'm with you in one boat... ADSL is worse than iBurst in my area.
