When will iBurst reduce prices or increase caps?

Agreed:

The current pricing (excluding OOB) could be adjusted to something like

  • Monthly down payment on modem R100 (First 24 months only)
  • Monthly minimum charge excluding modem cost, including 1GB R130
  • Additional 1GB: R50, with 3 month usage rollover

First 24 months the first GB would cost R230, thereafter a mere R130 per month. (Or own modem = R130 pm minimum contract value from day 1) This is what I would call transparency and value for money!

Obviously, PrePaid would need to be adjusted accordingly :-)

:-)

Come to thing of it: R130 pm for the first GB of data (modem excluded) would be the cheapest BroadBand access in South Africa.

Telkom charges more than that just for enabeling the line for ADSL access.

Not a bad idea. It would make comparing apples with apples much easier for everyone.

Jannie... did you read pages 25and before of this other thread?

I think I'm being misinterpreted to say prices charged by iburst are justified, I'm not saying that at all. I think most providers, including iburst, probably have no idea what their costs actually comprise of, they probably work out at a point in time that their current customer base uses x amount of data, the total company costs are Ry, and they divide Ry by x to get a cost per gb, and then they add some mark-up. This totally misses the opportunity to say "hey, you know what, if we increase data usage to double, the price per gb actually comes down by 30%, and we'd be way more competitive, get a whole bunch more customers, and our margins would still be intact!". It also spreads the costs of their activities across all customers when not all customers make use of them. E.g. I do not use my [email protected] email address, which is included "free" in my monthly subs, nor do i use the other "free" value-adds such as 24hr support, fax2email, delivery of my modem. Remember, these services have costs, and are making up a portion of the monthly subs. If you make delivery cost e.g. R50, then everybody's subs can go down e.g. R1. If you charge for 24hr support vs. e.g. working-hour support, subs can come down. Charge R10 for somebody who wants [email protected] and 5 other aliases - my sub can then come down.

If you'd like I can come present some pricing structures to you and sign on as a consultant? :D

Pop in by all means. I can then show you at the same time how to use paragraphs to make large blocks of text more readable! :D

But seriously, all these ideas are in the bigger picture being considered. I've got absolutely NO problem taking a logical and workable ideas and make it our own.

Offer to come and visit no flippant remark. ;)

Heh - for free, you get the unformatted block of text, when we sign the consultancy agreement, I commit to putting it on a fancy powerpoint slideshow - with sounds and animations (depending on my hourly rate).

There's a book by [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Strategy-Tactics-Pricing-Growing-Profitably/dp/0131856774/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256195209&sr=8-1"]Nagle[/ame] entitled "Strategic Pricing" which is really worth a read.

that might help them decide on pressing issues

I hope iBurst provides us with some cap increases or cheaper boosters. I'll be following the progress from outside the forum. Despite no longer posting here, I'm hoping that iBurst will give us some nice improvements in terms of bandwidth or pricing. Ta. :)

Sorry Jannie I should have been more specific, do you have a date in mind?

I understand that's what you're asking, and I do have one.

But my old friend, Murphy, taugh me one should not commit too early. ;)

when are you guys going to learn. Just ditch iburst already if there are other options available to you. It's not worth the struggle, my blood pressure has come down a significant amount since i joined afrihost.
