This only includes those that have been arrested already. We do not know how many of them have been deported already or not found due to their non existence technically.

Exactly. Illegal immigrants have no status, records or family in the country, so committing crimes is that much easier for them. Crime does most definitely pay in SA - especially taking the ridiculous conviction rates into consideration.

Who took the electric fences down along our borders?
Who accepts bribes at the border posts? (R20 will get you through with zero documentation - I've spoken to Malawians)

The bribes gets more expensive, though.
I know of a person that was arrested by home affairs officials for being here illegally.
He was arrested at work.
They wanted a bribe of R1000.
He was allowed to go back to work and pay them off.
With interest!!!
He eventually paid R1650.
How enterprising.
