I lost my ADSL equipment ASUS DSL-AC68U, TP-Link 8817 modem and computer to a lightning strike. I need to replace it and would like some assistance in choosing replacements.

No FTTH in my area.

I used the D-Link as a modem and the DSL-AC68U as a Wifi router. My computer was a custom gaming PC with GTX570 huge Antec PSupply and an Asus Mobo with the infamous I7 920 overclocked. lots of RAM and a SSD with 2 more storage drives.

Any suggestions?

EDIT:
I got an Asus DSL-N10C1 to take care of the ADSL side as it was reasonably priced and could double for a WiFi router as well. After using it for a few days I got an Asus RT-AC68U to use as a Wifi router as the DSL-N10C1 is VERY slow.
Now I need to get it all working together properly with a RP-AC52 repeater. If the ASUS reps or techies have the settings please PM them.

Was looking at VDSL modems/routers this morning, not to buy but to simply see the max d/load speeds.

If you don't (again) need Gigabit, then this might be worth considering (max 100Mbps) :

N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit VDSL2/ADSL2+ Modem Router
TD-W9980 supports VDSL2 and backward compatibility with ADSL2+ /ADSL2/ADSL, featuring superfast broadband
speeds of up to 100Mbps

Searching via Pricecheck, there was a shop selling them for R1,299.

Have a look at this thread as well :

You're asking about ADSL modems, so if you only need ADSL2+ up to 24Mbps, I bought a D-Link 2740u modem/router for R499 about 6-8 months ago from a local retailer, and very happy with it. It allows me to have PPPoE passthrough / Bridge mode at a very reasonable price, so can easily setup an ISP in the modem/router & have multiple ISPs in Windows to switch to & override the one in the modem/router.

EDIT : consider registering with http://www.dbg.co.za/ not only to see their pricing on TP-Link and others, but as a member of this forum, you should be able to get a 10% discount when ordering - check that with them.

You could replace the D-Link modem with a Broadcom BCM6318 based Tenda D301 ADSL router (~R350) or a TP-Link TD-8817. Both of these devices have some basic internal lightning protection.

You can get most of the Tenda networking equipment locally from Scoop Distribution. This is the cheapest option if you have a dealer account with them. Otherwise you can purchase it cheaper via one of their resellers such as Russ-AL PC's, GeeWiz or AVSupply.

You could also consider the AC15, the AC9 or the Archer C7 or C9 as a cheap replacement for the AC68U. You can get a discount on most of the TP-Link equipment from Uniterm Direct as mentioned above.

I had a TP-Link TD-8817. This was hit with all the subsequent damage mentioned! The basic internal lightning protection was useless.

A bit pricey, but I must first check with my distro to see what I will pay. Specs very similar to TP-Link that is R1500 cheaper.

I had a TP-Link setup with range extender before the ASUS setup. The TP=Link had to be reset at least once in two days or the WiFi connected devices would not connect to the internet. I took it back and got the ASUS products, DSL-AC68U and RP-AC52 range extender. Except for lightning strikes I have had good solid performance from them.

I do agree that the price is rather high.:(

I need something with built in VDSL. The TP-link has that and is very highly rated on international reviews.
