Dont listen to this guy with his outdated way of thinking. All these cars are gutless. Zero power whatsoever, they are made for retired people who are not rushing anywhere. Did I mention boring?

He did mention the Strarlet Cross, thanks. He might like turbo and said he's avoiding Chinese brands.
 
As a regretful proud Opel Corsa owner, my advice would be to definitely not buy an Opel.

Just get a good secondhand something else. At that budget the options are solid and you can get a demo version of something nice with warranty, service plan etc instead of getting the basement version of something new.

Opel parts are very expensive in my experience, more so than - for example - an equivalent Fiesta. I wouldn't buy that either though.

Which Corsa? I had an Astra G- drove a minimum of 120km a day for 6 years, then gave it my brother for many years worry free driving.

Rebuilt the gearbox at 11,000km, replaced a shock absorber at 13,000km. Luckily those were warranty claims, but still.

Looked at adding foglights to the car - dealer wanted R22,000 just for the parts, no labour. For plastic. R850 a globe.

Nuts.

Appreciate it rh1, Corolla is probably a better choice than the Polo ........... or not? Thinking of hijackings etc.
 
Single guy depend from what side of the boerewors gordyn he is.
Now here me out.
Remove 3rd row of seats and have a huge boot for cooler bags, gazebos, chairs etc.
You can even remove the 2nd row of seats and sleep inside for camping and fishing with your mates.
Its light on fuel. Drives like a Polo not a bus, reliable, cheap to maintain and great resale value too.
Helping girls delivering washing machines. coffee tables etc will score you at least 1 kopkou a month.

He won't go to WBC but if he buys from a Dealership should he take a mechanic-type person with him?

Well if he spend 350k and reliability and piece of mind is more important than looks. I would buy a car that still have a warrantee left and also only from Brand name dealerships secondhand floors like VW, Toyota etc,
Also a great place to buy secondhand cars is Avis car sales/ All cars will be around 35k km's and still under manufacturer warrantee.
