Those aren’t remotely normal parts for purchase though.
You’ll find the same for every other brand.
You made it sound like it’s expensive to maintain, which it is not.

Well supported? Because they **** gearboxes and pop turbos around every corner?
AFAIK Opel left and came back back to SA. So not many dealerships Vs something like VW or Toyota. And no incentive for spare shops to keep stock.

There is certainly less than VW but it’s still far more prevalent than say Citroen or Peugeot (which it is a sister car to now).
Plenty of stock with the spares shops.
Really not a major concern.
Gonna have to back that up.
Well supported for me means access to parts, not waiting for them to import etc.
Yup, Peugeot Citroen took over the Opel brand.
Also we can agree to disagree.

Talk about a misconception, you're not the 1st one to think that re: Opel in SA.
Opel never left! They just shift a ton less volume vs their hay days in the early 90's to about mid noughties. & have an advertising budget of 5k.

It is very well known that the DSG gearboxes are problematic and nobody wants to keep them out of warranty.
The smaller turbo engines also get pushed too hard and have plenty of problems, although in fairness it has been better in the last couple of years.
Point is you wouldn’t consider it “well supported” if it didn’t need parts all the time.
Same goes for break discs, brake pads, windscreen wipers (R750 for the rear, when I eventually found one).
It was just an example, but it is an expensive car to maintain for what it is.

City or highway driving?
I'm sure I get even better than that in the Kombi, on the highway, if I drive within the speed limit.

Those are all generic parts you van get from anyone, so not sure why you think Opel is more expensive than others.
Dealership pricing is insanity with any brand out of plan.

Rear wind screen wipers aren't all generic. Not on my Polo, Clio, Spark, Golf.

That's fine, but Peugeot Citroen did take the brand over. And you just stated that they shift a ton less volume. Thus parts will be more scarce.

I mean I don’t really care it was just a stupid statement to make. If he said 12 I would have gone ha ha, sure.
Even so with the Chinese being heavier on fuel it’s not outrageously so and gets nullified by getting more for your money.
It’s like the old diesel argument where people used to pay more for them up front and in maintenance to “save” but over 5 years never won out over what they spent over the next in line petrol version.
Same argument with the Chinese. Yes the cars are less efficient, but it hardly matters all things considered.

You will be able to buy a Bosch model of any of them. Ergo generic.
But also, wipers are one of the biggest dealership scams.
