So you think the 4 years has dropped the insurance rate so much that household can be included and STILL be cheaper? The cars are the same generation, they've both since been replaced by the latest versions.
 
Yes the Opel Corsa is worth R189k - R209k around the 50k mileage mark.

The Ford Fiesta is around R110k-R160k and will almost certainly be higher mileage for being older as well making it worth even less.

Home insurance is fairly cheap but there are other factors like excess structure and other benefits too of course.

Average premium is around 5% per year.

190k @ R791
150k @ R625

R166 difference.

If you said this last year, I would’ve agreed with you. But for some reason this year I have seen a spike in Polo thefts, Personally witnessed 2 polo thefts this year, even reported both while the acts were happening and no one cared, security didn’t care, police didn’t care.

Then I know of another 4 that got stolen either from friends, or colleagues. So total of 6 that I know off in 10 months. (Luckily none were hijacking’s)

All polo drivers I know are always worried about where they have to park, where they drive to etc. it’s just not worth the stress.

Don’t get me wrong, polos are great cars, definitely above the rest in its class but damn it’s just stressful owning one.

Don't think the vehicle matters too much, it's all risk profile.

East Rand. Outsurance. Family member in their 50s.

Vehicle value and its repair cost is the primary factor.

The on top of that comes the modifiers of the risk of theft for the vehicle itself and then of course the risk profile of the driver.

But yes there are many factors, but in this equation the risk related ones should be more or less equal.

Type of vehicle also significantly changes the risk profile.
