I have a similar one and I'm semi trolling. It's a great fun car but not super comfortable. I'll go with that Mazda or civic. But if you want something to thrash it's a great option

My bad. But typically stick with proper Japanese (not outsourced to india). So some of these Mazda, hondas , corolla crosses are ideal. No turbo helps with longevity too. Manual or torque converter autos are ideal too. Dual clutch is nice but not the safest bet.
 
What is his current ride and why does he want to change it?

Reliability, lack of power, want a change? Space, fuel consumption? Etc.

The company he works for transferred him to UK but he decided to come back to SA and is currently using my car - Golf 7.

He was fortunate to get his old job back and has found a place to stay. Needs to furnish it though.

The escalation in car prices over the last couple of years is an issue and I think the main factor for him is affordability but also not wanting to look like a complete woes in a tin can (he's 28) 🫥

Corolla Cross is outsourced to SA, Mazda uses some parts from China (power steering motor with such poor QC that it led to international notices). Some of the Indian Suzuki cars (like the Suzuki Fronx) are so good they are exported to countries like Japan and Australia.

Mazda and Honda sell so few cars I'm surprised they still in the country, which saddens me as a Mazda 2 owner. It should be telling that some Mazda dealers are even obtaining Suzukis to try make money - look on Autotrader, my local Mazda East Rand has the same number of Suzuki Fronx demos on sale as the demo and 2nd hand CX-5s combined.

if I was him I’d delay the purchase as long as possible. His got a sweet loan car.

I never said they should be made in Japan. I worked in automotive for 15 yrs , we supplied toyota Mazda and vw in south africa. Maybe I should type slowly. But by India I mean the lesser ranges . Like an etios. Etc.... or like the kiger is to renault. Bla bla bla
