Which CHEAP Tablet should I choose

3.0 was not released as Open Source so you wont find any cheap tablets with it on as only branded manufacturers that is part of the Open Handset Alliance got access to its code.

3.1 will be released sometime in the coming months as Open Source and then we will get cheap tablets with it, also note that 3.1 is dual OS so it will be ported to phones as well.
 
There is a stack of the cheap pads out there. Take your pick.
I ended up buying something that looks like an IPAD, but runs Android for around R2400.
So here are my findings/suugestions
- Get one with a capacitive screen.
- Don't go and play with the more expensive ones in the shop. You'll just realise your cheapie actually suck and then you want the more expensive one.
- Mine's got a 800Mhz CPU. That's the absolute minimum you should accept.
- Very few 3G dongles work.
- SD card slot for extra storage is a must.
- The screen quality isn't great, but it's not bad either. I can read PDF's, mail, etc. just fine.
- If you have an Android phone you can setup a wifi hotspot through your phone, which solves the mobility problem.
- There's a reason it's cheap.
Lasty, I absolutely love the thing.
It's going to become like cell phones. In a few year's time you won't understand how you actually lived without the thing.
 
If you want a cheap but relative decent tablet I recon you should look at Archos.

I almost bought the 7" one with 250 gig storage for R2400.
The 10" with 8 gig goes for R2000 but I wanted Honeycomb for development (work payed) so I ended up getting Eee Pad Transformer..... pity Boss doesn't wanna pay for keyboard dock so will have to buy one from my own pocket.

Ummm that's the thing.
It seems to be a rebranded/copied Herotab M10. Just like the chinese to copy their own copy.

That's another point I should make. Stick to the "brand" names, like Flytouch and Zenithink.
There's a lot more community support and more frequent firmware updates for them.

Yes it will run but the source code is not out, and will not come out.
Ice cream Sandwich that is the new Android OS being prepped will be released for all hackers to enjoy and place on the apads and alike. It will also work on phones and tablets. Out Q4.

It will never be released... ever.

Its being used by the Open Handset Alliance for R&D and to get return on investment they are the only ones allowed to release devices on it. So in a way you are right.

Think of it as a pharmaceutical company that charge high prices so they can make money before the generics get the recipe :)

I saw they upped the price of the 8GB Archos 101.
It has been on R2000 for the last week.
Lucky for me I ordered one yesterday morning @ R2000 and it is already on it's way :)

Guess they had a sudden increase in demand. You will find there is a lot of people reading here but not posting....
