Which class to push to 85 when Cataclysm hits?

I'm still undecided between the Pally and Druid, considering they both tank and heal.

Having never played a drood before I can't comment on them, but I do however have a lvl58 Pally that's oodles of fun to level. :) (even made me forget about my chiefmince for a while. :p

We effectively have 2 months and 1 day before Cata hits. I wonder if that's sufficient time to roll an alt to level to 80. I just don't see how people find the time to level more than one character, do all the dailies and still gear themselves.

Then again I'm a bit of a chiefmince wh0re. Doubt I'd be able to do it with more than 1.

The only other question now is which class to level:

Pally (lvl 20)
Drood (lvl 22)
DK (lvl 61)
Mage (lvl 6)
Lock (lvl 7)

I'm still undecided between the Pally and Druid, considering they both tank and heal.

The healing mechanics are vastly different. It will depend on your play style.

Warrior is currently my main(tank), but I see a lot if people leveling warriors, for some reason, so I will probably change to my Druid as a main for tanking in Cata.

A lot of people are always levelling warriors. Most don't make it past lvl 40 :)

@ Voicy: My personal opinion atm: Druid > Pally (I have both @ 80). Dunno how things will be in CATA

Regarding gearing new 80's. It took my priest & pally about 20 hours playtime after 80 to get +- 5.5k gs. earlier this year. (Ding sunday morning, do 11/12 in ICC wednesday). Helps when u run a guild :p

I'm waiting for the patch 4 too see after the changes which class do I enjoy most. I will level my main (mage) + one other must be a tank alt ofc! all have epic flying mounts
Good idea, currently testing warrior on the PTR makes me a sad panda, right now I have no idea if I should still go with the Warrior or not. At least warriors completely suck at dps, however their tanking seems to be mostly fine.

Here is a video that shows the current sad state of afair that fury dps is on the 4.0.1 PTR.

Well I am very worried about hunters as well... Last night I was on the PTR realm trying out the focus system for hunters... and I am totally utterly disgusted with it at this current point in time.
I really feel like a rogue waiting for energy...

See mob, hunters mark, Aimed shot opening shot, serpent, chimera.... dry... totally flat dry. Sit and spam steady to get focus back.... Damn I hope they fix it. Either we would need to stack haste like crazy Mofo's ... or spend a LOT of talent points in focus regen.
We effectively have no burst ... totally crap burst.

Heh hunters did have some crazy burst though...

However I've been reading the US ptr forums a bit. Hunters can still solo certain elites in northrend, where warriors could kill them in 3.3.5 and still survive, they can't even do it at all now on 4.0.1 PTR.

Check out this thread if you don't believe me at just how bad fury dps is broken in 4.0.1 right now on the PTR: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26850245140&sid=1&pageNo=1

I go into random heroic, mages get freaking 45k crits! and I sit there and get happy if I get a 6k crit. Now crit sizes are not the problem, the sustained DPS is the big problem. I can't even get past 4.1k dps on PTR where on the same dummy on 3.3.5 live I can do up to 6.5k sustained dps over a 5-10minute period to even out random RNG. Now dummies always gave me low dps, the problem is once I go into heroics, I still do the same dps I did on the dummy, where as on live that changed up to 10k dps single target and aoe easy 15-20k dps (warriors only do up to a certain amount of targets while aoe unlike most other classes's aoe abilities).

Anyways that thread can explain it much better than I do, its not just me thats having this problem. I actually changed my stat stacking to haste, to hit, ect, haste works good, stacking hit actually works even better, looks like I am going to play a bit like a combat rogue on fury, but just do a lot less sustained dps.

Someone was saying in guild chat that we are going to have to learn to use CC again in Cataclysm. I remember when TBC first came out. Some of the first heroics the lock had to chain fear and also control succubuss to cc. Seems that old method of aoe 5 elites is not going to work ?

Nice to have to use a bit of skill again. I would seriously consider playing my lock again... :D

I think the first 6 months in Cataclysm there is going to be a fair amount of "switching mains" as people find their niche again.

Actually locks get a new talent I think, so that when you fear, it stuns the target in place, so you can literally use it ANYWHERE now and do damage to it while CC'd! That is gonna be such a leet skill. Aparently locks is the best CC class for 5man heroics right now on beta, at least according to Cynical Brit's Cataclysm videos.

For example check out: 2x locks and a mage for cc in this group: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vMLB9j24gQ thats the 1st heroic 5man Blackrock Caverns.

@ Fayera. Ye wtf is with that? Because they are atm so op? Because atm (always) they are fun to play? I know like 5 friends who going to level their warriors 1st in CATA, even thou its always been their alts. There is never many spots in raids for warriors, specially in 10 man.

This

VOA 10/25 is always full on warriors...

I've seen so many more fury warriors around than tanks O.o

Sorry I can't browse gaming sites at work. :( What's the outlook on Arms warriors??? (I'm not changing my main to anything else. )

Arms on PTR is still good, at least compared to what it used to be. A tiny bit lower than live, but not much more than the current fury dps. But expect to be 1shotted by most casters in 4.0.1 in PvP, or if not 1shotted you will be dead before you do any real dmg to them.

Ah man...that reminds me of the days of Kara ... Stunlocks e.g. MC / chains / hunter traps and SAPs were absolutely crucial. I used to enjoy playing a rogue in those instances. Welfare epics were also not as abundant and you had to BG for pvp epics just to get your foot into the door for 10man raids.

Blizz will 'fix' warriors in pvp if they are not already fine. Its one of the classes Blizz always make sure they look after 1st.

I'm in 2 minds again.

Actually made up my mind to level my warrior first but then all this talk about Warrior DPS makes me sad. I tank with my warrior and do Arms for leveling and PvP. And if their DPS sucks like it did in TBC then I might as well level something from scratch completely. I have a Mage/Pala/Lock/Rogue/Shaman on horde side I can level to 85 but that would just suck, played with all of them for ages.

The Druid healing thing is scaring me, I don't like DK's so the only other choice then would be to level a gnome Priest. But leveling a Oriest I heard is a pain. So what now :D Uninstall WoW and play something else?

I wouldn't call it panic, but you kinda need to be realistic, its probably going to take at least up to 4.1 to fix most issues, and in Wrath they only fixed Arms PvP for warriors in around 3.2.

What scared me was seeing a CATA beta movie of a resto druid doing BG's and not being able to keep himself up vs a DK (even in tree form with instant regrowth spamming). At one point there was 2 druids, 1 dk and the dk won in the end.

But hey its always like that. Some classes are broken while others faceroll for a few weeks till it slowly gets more balanced (but never fully). Any DK player's face still have keyboard buttons stuck to it from the start of Wrath?

How is that balanced?

As a Healer, a healer should be able to out heal single target DPS in combat against another plater. (I have to agree that currently Druids are very OP in that field) But any spec'd healer should be able to out heal single target DPS. If someone needs to kill a healer it needs to be a group effort since a healer can't DPS back. That would be balanced. Say a DK/Rogue/Paladin/Warrior/Mage what not one on one they should not be able to kill a Priest/Shaman/Pala/Druid healer. 2 vs 1 then the healers should die.

Currently on Druids, I can run the flag single handedly from the Horde base to ours in WSG without dying :D That is OP. I can have 3 people beating down on me at once and just keep on healing and walking.
