which DVD writer????

My two cents, and if anybody wants to argue, remember i don't bliksem I donner....

Samsung...good, but they are developing problems especially burning dvd problems..so rather skip them
Sahara....mmm..the name says it all
Lite-On...havent had a problem yet with them and they have like a 0.1% fault rate (I dont know if its true..it was sales talk)
LG.....Currently the owner of one...they are fair priced and i think you can't go wrong with it.

Yep one of my friends recently got one from Centurion Tech and I cant remember the price but it was really low. I also have an LG DVD writer and so far so good. My Aopen drives both died in one way or another for example, if there is no disc in the drive it wont open. You have to use a pin to manually open the drive but when it has a disc in it iworks just fine :confused:
 
this gigabyte seems to do very well, feels very robust!
even flys through dirty dvd's and doesnt get all whiney about dirt and stuff!
 
i orginally had an LG and it died a rather short death had it for 6 months burned fine, then about two months later it would not read anything!!! Could have been due to me burning like 30 dvd's in about 8 hours of constant burning. Decided to send it in to LG but casue it was an old model they did not support it and a new one had replaced it so i just chucked it, its was no use anymore! ever since then i have had a Sony and it works like a bomb
 
I am on my 3rd Samsung Dual Layer and what a pierce of poo. Now my tray does not wanna pop out, have to push eject like 10 times and it is now out of warrenty. Samsung is brought in by Sahara, Sahara = dodgy, very dodgy!!! Stay away from Sahara and Samsung goods, it is like buying from HiFi Corp, maybe cheap but you will regret it!

bought a LD DVD-RAM today for R350.
Works beautifully even with el cheapo disks
 
I have got the ASUS 16X DVD-RW in a number of my PC's I wou;d recommend them to anyone!! I have only lost 1 DVD when burning to date (Been more that 8 months of burning)Saying that i havent read any reviews on them or know anyone else that uses them, so i cant comment on what other people may think of them.
 
I can also vouch for the SONY LITEON drives. Notice how SONY is in bold? its to make it clear that liteon drives are actually SONY.

Not taking a stab at anyone, just be careful of a particular person who keeps spreading misinformation. hopefully his info gets better when he goes off to university/tech.
