I fail to understand why companies are so obsessed with Outlook. The iPhone app is garbage and the Desktop app has had the "1 unread e-mail in your Inbox but actually there are none" bug for how many years now? Let me not even get started on how poor Outlook search is.

I prefer WLM because I know it, know how to back it up & how to restore it, but I would recommend Gmail to anyone that's starting off for the first time.
