We have HunterNW. He is an experienced shooter and still has never successfully shot an animal while hunting. Rumour has it he is a vegan hunter, but we aren't 100% sure about that.

Smallish, easy to conceal,. lots of spares, lots of holsters etc....Was a good price...Seems to maintain value

So I just had my very first unsupervised gun range experience. With 200 rounds. And 3 pistols: Glock 19, CZ P10-C and Taurus G2.
Thanks for the tip on this thread about Waterfall Arms in Midrand, they are amazing (shout out to Marco - friendliest salesman ever).
Here's the range setup:
I will say this ... it's not a cheap hobby when you're renting the guns AND the range AND buying ammo, but this was training for me. And there are special deals. And even annual memberships.
Basic opinion on the guns:
Taurus G2: absolutely terrible. Shot one mag and stopped, because you have to pull the trigger almost all the way to the back before you hit the wall. Gun feels decent in the hand, so maybe the trigger was faulty but I wasn't gonna bother finding out.
Glock 19 Gen 5: Interestingly not the gun I shot with the most accuracy. It feels the best in the hand though, and everything about it just feels better put together. A smoother mag release, a chunkier and easier to load mag ... but those stock sights are terrible and for me as a novice I just did better on the next gun.
CZ P10-C: Feels decent in the hand, but not as well-built as the Glock. Magazine is all just sharp edges and uncomfortable to load by hand as many times as I was doing. That said, the 3-dot sight worked the best for me. I got genuine bulls eyes with it and overall far more bullets in the orange circle with it, than the others.
So which would I buy? A bit early to tell, but I'm currently leaning towards a Glock (I want some more back-to-back experiences with the 19 and 43X and just keep working on my aim with it (and get some 3-dot TruGlo night sights for it). I know Glock takes so much flack, but like everyone always concludes it's the best all-round experience even if it's not the best at any one thing (apart from mag quality lol).

Well there's a range safety officer, but he doesn't hold your hand. All he does is swop out the new targets and make sure people are observing the basic safety protocols. So this was the first time I was handed guns and bullets and just pointed to a lane ... which is what I wanted. I had an hour to just deal with my nerves and try different body positions for stability.
I overheard a conversation in the lane to my left that a guy brought his son in to shoot, and the son has never shot before. That means he knows no safety protocols, nothing. Scared the **** out of me frankly, but I'm still here to talk about it. There's not even a safety briefing on your way in. I don't know much but I've at least got my proficiency certificate, which is a start.
Honestly, little you're saying has me brimming over with confidence about the range.

*shrugs* I've watched enough YouTube videos to know this is pretty much the common range experience ... maybe they pay more attention to people who clearly don't know what they're doing, and I got off lightly because I could hold a gun securely and not point it at my feet. Which range do you go to, bwana?
Firing a gun is a scary enough experience even when you're competent that I'm sure nobody is doing this carelessly. Also it's prohibitively expensive as mentioned, so everyone actually there seemed intent on just getting better.
