Which ISP should I choose?

I see... I have two ISPs. Do you recommend that I cancel MWeb and Cybersmart and move over to someone else?

I cannot really tell you what to do, that you must decide for yourself.

All I know is that my letter cancelling my service will be with Cybersmart on Monday.

In the interim I will use Axxess prepaid vouchers until I decide to move to a new ISP.

Hey Ponder

Your Axxess pre-paid solutions seems to be the answer.

Thanks for your input and advice... I think my letter to Cybersmart will go off on Monday as well.

:)

help

I already have a telkom account but no local account. I'm planing to use route sentry and what i would like to know whats the cheapest local only offering on pre-piad? and where to buy? And will this work with my telkom line and modem? Thanx

Ok i'v checked my options. And Webafrica is the cheapest with 10gb for R70 and its IS based? How is IS For gaming on SAIX game servers? or should i just pay R120 for 10gb with axxess?

Free ADSL from MyISP

Depends on how much you use , you can get a free 250 MB per month from www.myisp.co.za
I have tried it and it work a treat
No bank details required :)

At this moment the first post looks pretty obsolete. Is there no way to update it, or for someone to create a new one?

The OP, MrG, has the ability to edit the post, as do forum staff.

Hey.

Yeah you right. It has been a while since the first post has been updated.

I will gather some info and make changes. :)

Edit:

I just went and checked some prices quick for interest sake. The scary thing the majority of the prices are still the same. There are some new things we can add like semi shaped, mweb local uncapped, line rentals, 192kbps being gone and those things like that, which I will, however it is scary to note there isn't more than a R10 difference in most places for ADSL ISP providers.

I'll look again when im more awake though :)

VPN...

Good day to all..

I know the topic is a bit dead, but I decided to pop on in and ask a quick question...

VPN... Now, it comes down to this... I had the ADSL line cancelled some two years ago, don't remember what it was, think it was 1meg, anyway...

I now want to get the VPN, as it seriously looks like the best value for money (PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong!!)

Now.. I want to use this for a lot of surfing, gaming, mainly Counter Strike, and then dowloading, though downloading is not that musch of an importance..

Can anyone please advise me on Latencies for VPN, I have been looking at OpenWeb and SAOL.com, though I have found SAOL.com's prices looking better, as I do not have my ADSL line activated and they will do it at -10%...

I have mailed them, though today is a public holiday, prob day off for mail readers.. hehehe

Just need some thought from people who do use this service already, as it seems to be the best value for money and, well, perfect?

anyone can update me to best local only deal atm?
Local deals are set to change shortly with Telkoms new rates so hang ten and don't sign anything:D Personally I use Cybersmart and am very happy with their product, price and service...

Comparison site to make life easier

I wouldn't normally be so self promoting but its very relevant to this topic.

I've just set up a broadband comparison site to help navigate all of the packages out there.

Have a look at broadbandchooza.co.za It covers over 1000 packages and 40 ISPs.

I hope it helps :D

Best site I have ever visited. Saving me at least an hour already. Great job to the designers.
Please ad the Cybersmart.

I had a look at your site and it does not have prices/packages for a large number of ISP's. Do you make the ISP's pay before you list their prices/packages?

Your site is pretty worthless because you are missing the lowest cost providers on there. There are places offering 1gb/month for as low as 50 rand/month now and many that are under 59.

Howdy.

I don't follow the IT trends as much as I used to, so I'd love some advice from you lot, please. :)

Based on the suggestions of MyBB members, we went with WebAfrica as our ADSL ISP quite some time ago. We've been happy with them ever since, but I have noticed a trend of late against them, and combined with some other evolving demands on our side, we're looking to change.

At the moment we're on 384 with a 3 Gb cap. We're routinely running out of bandwidth and having to top-up with atleast one or two 1 Gb packages a month.

At R70 a pop, it's a bit costly imo.

What's the ISP and package of choice for this scenario, atm?

We use the connection for a bit of everything...browsing, email, IM, work, file downloads, etc.

No gaming - pointless on a 384 connection.

Thanks.
