Which ISP to choose?

Hello All

i am shopping around for ADSL and ISP. I narrowed it down between Mweb and Webafrica:

Webafrica offers:
- 10GB (2GB Peak and 8GB offpeak), up to 10mbps ADSL line rental and Pro which increases the download speed for R 649 pm. Not sure if the Pro add-on makes it unshaped or not?

Mweb offers:
- Uncapped, but shaped, up to 4 mbps ADSL line rental for R 899 pm.

I see there are quite a few complaints regarding the download speeds from Webafrica on the forums and it looks like there are fewer complaints against Mweb.

This will be used mainly for on-line gaming (Xbox Live) and downloading the odd torrent.

Kindly assist in choosing the best option for reliabilty, speed and bang for your buck. Alternative suggestions are welcomed.

We don't have shaped/ unshaped bandwidth anymore, but rather prioritised - making things a little more specific to protocols and more transparent for everyone. You can have a look at our table which will explain what priority level you'll be sitting on

On our speeds, most of these issues are related to congested exchanges. I can personally say from my account (which is on Silver priority) I can happy download, stream and browse through the net at a solid 800kb/s

My personal experience is that MWEB has a far higher contention ratio than WA. WA service is also better than MWEB.

mnet is the best of the bad bunch. used their 384, 1mb, 4mb and business bonded adsl and tried several other isp's as backup and mweb stays the best. love them or hate them... whatever you choose just stay away from as IS isp's...

now that you have survived all the solicitation you decide will your gaming and the odd torrent amount to more than 10 gig a month? or would your torrents and MMOrpg come to least 150+ gig?
personally i hate having my line with anyone other than telkom for the time being

moved over from mweb to WA a while back and have never been happier never had any download speed issues
and I game almost daily and the odd torrent now and then, speeds are amazing to be honest and I download
games from steam ever so often which is an absolute pleasure not to mention freezone for some game updates
if they have it on the FTP server ... would def recommend WA if you are ok with 10G cap.
