Hello,

After a recent adjustment by Afrihost it seems that they offer a strict NAT policy only. Therefore platforms like Xbox 1 will not connect to online games. It used to work fine, but they broke something while trying to make the service "better".

This is the response from Afrihost critical care:

Michael here from the Critical Care Department. Maserati asked me to contact you regarding the issues you are experiencing with your Xbox One and our network.

I understand that you are noticing strict NATing on the Xbox when connected with our network which is as to be expected as our network has always run strict NATing protocols unlike other ISPs. Would you be able to clarify the exact issue you are having that you think may be related to the NATing so that I can replicate and resolve from my side.

I look forward to your positive response (",)

Kind Regards,
Michael

Clearly online gaming is no longer their target market...

Tested the free data from FNB, my NAT is open and online games are playable...

Which ISP's offer open NAT after ports are forwarded ?

I think you just need to enable UPnP on your router, or do you mean your router is getting a private IP on your external interface and not a dynamic public IP?

NAT is something that is controlled on your router sitting in your house and got nothing to do with your ISP. NAT is used to share multiple private ip addresses used by devices on your LAN with the external IP address that is assigned to you by your ISP. If there is something wrong with your NAT configuration there sweet f-all that your ISP can do about it. It is stricly an issue on your local network.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. My UPnP is enabled. My ports are forwarded... DMZ enabled.

With XB1 if the NAT is strict, forget about online gaming. It's impossible to connect to your opponent.

Yet just one week ago, everything was perfect.

Check out these links about NAT:

WebAfrica is better but rubbish with Destiny as its P2P traffic.

Crystal Web is decent but wait a while before moving over as they have some network issues.

Both capped accounts. Uncapped suffered from some latency issues but good enough for my brother to play CoD while I jam Destiny. Using business uncapped with WA at the moment.

So, the guy from Afrihost has no clue what he is talking about. Since he says Afrihost runs a strict NATing protocol.

How come changing the ISP from Afrihost to FNB - the NAT opens and I can connect to an online game. I have changed nothing else on my router.

My router should have the final say, but clearly Afrihost is restricting certain ports from being open, causing the NAT to be strict.

Either way thanks for the reply. All I want is someone who is currently using and XB1 and getting an open NAT with a different ISP...

You need to port forward on your router. A friend of mine with Afrihost and Xbox one has the same problem he just port forwarded on the router and all is good.

Thanks, Have you tried fifa 15 with WA ?

I have an Afrihost capped account at home and have port forwarding setup for a few devices (like my alarm system, CCTV, etc) in my house so that I can access them from outside my home network via the internet. I've never had a problem with them blocking any incoming ports. If you're having issues that I'm almost certain that the issue with the configuration of your router. Which router are you using?

Doesn't help when Afrihost classifies most of the game traffic as P2P and blocks it.

Hi, ports are forwarded... My voice chat lasts about 5mins and drops... You can sit there for days and you will never connect to a game...

Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP & TCP)
Port 53 (UDP & TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)
Port 500 (UDP)
Port 3544 (UDP)
Port 4500 (UDP)

Thats a different story then. but I was playing online couple min ago and gaming is unshaped (realtime) if they regarding your game as p2p you need to tell them.

3 different routers and had the same issue.
Moved to a different ISP and all was fine.

They know some Xbox traffic shows up as P2P on their end. Last I heard they were still trying to fix it.

@OP try a test account from WA and take it from there.

To me it sounds like packet loss when VOIP drops like that it doesn't resemble a strict NAT with a strict NAT you wont even be able to sign into live. But you say its fine on A FNB account so we can possibly rule out its a line issue. I don't know if you are aware but Afrihost is having problems with their network like always.

Using Telkoms Pace router... I tested a netgear same issue.

Please share your settings...

The problem came up on Monday when Afrihost "stabilised" the speed issues momentarily... Prior to that my NAT was open...
I am sure they are forcing a strict NAT to reduce traffic and stabilise the network. Hell if they would admit to that...
