Hi, I feel I am going round in circles and need some pointers, maybe you guys can help?

I have fibre, I want to cut the dstv cord.

I need a box/stick that can do:
- Netflix
- Amazon Prime
- GooglePlay Movies
- Showmax
- DSTV Now (not a must)
- 1080p streaming

Not Apple TV, also no Alexa, siri, OkGoogle type devices

Problems I noticed, Amazon Prime not available on ChromeCast, Showmax not available on Chromecast or Roku, Netflix. Netflix not available on some Android TV boxes.

Can anyone direct me? Also where to buy in ZA

Thanks

Have you done any searching at all in this forum section for the exact same topics? Just asking.....

Hi

Xiaomi mi box does everything, only Amazon prime is missing but can be downloaded from Aptoide.

But if you can afford it, the Nividia shield is the best and comes with Amazon Prime video preinstalled.

I am currently using the Amazon Fires stick, very useful and can run Kodi and Terrarium.
The remote is BT so no need to actually point it to the device.
Gave up the Android box for the Fire Stick

The best? Does it process Dolby atmos?

Michael, do you have anything to contribute apart from being an ass? You will notice that it is not the first time I am on these forums. I have most definitely searched but the problem is most search results deliver threads with large amount of pages, and I can't read everything to get to a possible answer.

It seems that even with the limited responses I have had there is no obvious solution, which means you probably also don't have one.

If you don't have anything to contribute, rather keep quiet.

Im subbed to this sub-section on this forum and this question comes in week in and week out, so no Im not being an ass but many of the questions like yours have been answered by myself and often end in no more than 2 pages long.

There are 2 very bespoke solutions out there, MiBox and the Shield, If your an audio junkie then the Shield is your friend, if your want to keep it simple and not to worried about hectic decoding capabilities then the MiBox is your answer....beyond that your wasting your money on any other box that says it does otherwise.

Try searching the right keywords and taking your time to read some other threads they may help you more in your "journey".

You obviously very limited in your knowledge. Roku and Apple TV are also apt choices too.

Each device has its limitation as there is no setup that does absolutely everything.

You are also clearly limited in your reading, please read his original post where he said not an Apple TV. If you missed that part then I would have thought you would have picked up the DSTV now as a requirement even through its not a must, its listed.

Additionally if Roku's are still in your books as a "decent" device then please go and do some more reading yourself. Iv played around a fair bit with the majority of the devices out there and I stick with my original suggestions.

And he listed no reason why. Sometimes hate makes them ignorant.

100% true, Iv got both the MiBox and the Apple TV 4K.

I really love my Apple TV and the moment that DSTV Now releases on the Apple TV I will switch back to it as my primary device and move the MiBox to another TV in the house.

My use cases are very limited and all the Apps I currently use excluding DSTV Now are on the App Store already. Its defiantly a contender in the market but I feel that the Android boxes have so much more flexibility which makes them so much more attractive. Beyond this I am also a sucker for Apple and I enjoy their eco system and products in general :)

Mi Box is amazing especially for the price and performance, Netflix 4K is great and Dstv now works just as well
I have on n off issues with YouTube 4K content .....but it appears more stable after update to Oreo

I am so glad you guys found each other on the Apple love. Sorry, but I am not about to be suckered into that eco system. I have had a Zidoo Android TV box for years and it served me well except that the Netflix app stopped being supported (I think it is as a result of some encryption standard and the version of android on it). Amazon Prime still works. Showmax never worked, I used it on my DSTV decoder. Seeing I want to cancel my dstv subscription I am in the market for something else. I do some gaming (steam on linux PC), so I don't want to buy a consol for my TV that will never be used, so that rules out Nvidia shield.

I suppose I can get chromecast for netflix and showmax (possibly DSTV Now?) and keep the Zidoo box around for amazon prime?

OK I ordered my chromecast. Will be delivered in 2 days. I'll keep my zidoo for amazon prime if required. All others I will use chromecast.

Only thing I am concerned about is how to manage chromecast with all the family members when I am not there. Do they all have my netflix, showmax, amazon prime, dstv now, logins with apps on their own phones to control the chromecast when I am not around????

Seems a little much
