Which MOBO to buy?

I would not go the Amd way, rather get the p55 LE mobo. The i5 750 is one hell of a cpu and can clock like the devil, and the le mobo works like a dream.

Ok, but the i5 750 is R500 more than a Phenom 945, and to be quite honest, they perform within a few percent of each other in games. So why spend extra money to get a small increase in performance? Assuming the OP is using the rig to play games 90% of the time.

Yep, 95% gaming..hence the crossfire 4850's.

I don't really care if its intel or amd, but i want crossfire to work, so point me in the right direction pls, chip and mobo :)

With an i5 setup you will not get x16,x16 motherboards unless you go high end (read R2500 and up). On more mainstream motherboards make sure you dont go for 1156 (i5 motherboard) with USB3/SATA3 since they steal lanes from the PCIe slots. AMD you can easily get USB3/SATA3 with ease under R2000 and have x8,x8 PCIe, or leave the USB3/SATA3 and get a nice 790FX motherboard with proper x16,16 PCIe slots.

Yip thats true,in gaming no diffs realy. But the first time you bench the amd against the i5 750 or i7 you WILL cry!!
Also in other things like video coding ect the intel is way faster, ive had both and the intel is the better choice by far.

And what point is benching except to be able to say that you have a bigger e-peen than the next guy? I know very well that Phenoms are no match for i5/i7 in benchmarks and video/audio encoding. But thats not what I bought it for, I bought it for games. So if you look at it from a value for money perspective for gaming only, the Phenom wins, even against an i7 CPU

Like i said in gaming they more or less the same, but so are all nice gpu's also. But most of us use pc for more than just gaming.I would rather pay extra and get something im happy with, then to say later maybe i should have.
Also the memory bandwith on i5/i7 is way better than amd.Ive had amd 940/955/965 cpu's and i still would rather buy i5/i7.

What? Are you saying a HD5850 = HD5870 = HD5970 = GTX470 = GTX480? Seeing how they are all 'nice' GPUs. And no, not everyone uses their PC for everything. Lots of people are more than happy enough not doing benchmarks, or video encoding, etc. So then why spend the extra money? Also, added memory bandwidth has a minimal effect on overall performance, so no loss there either. Value for money dude. If you dont plan on doing all the extra things why spend money on it?

Yip,fps in gaming with 5870/5970/gtx470/480 not big diffs. In benching you see big diffs between all cpu's and games yes.But in games not realy, one might be 5% slower and the other 7% faster, but not worth the diffs in money.
Bandwith makes a big diffs in gaming and coding. Also what value for money,a amd 965 cpu cost the same as a i5 750 cpu.The mobo can be bought for same(unless you buy a crappy amd mobo for R700,but who wants that realy?) and the memory is same price. So in the end value for money is gone and the i5 KICKS the crap out of a amd 965 in everything.

So a 30% difference is not that much to you (Metro2033, 5850 vs GTX480)? Or 20% difference with a 5870? You clearly dont know your stuff. And again, memory bandwidth makes very little difference in games. After all, when last did you see a memory review where they show how well different games perform on different memory?
Finally, if you actually read the whole thread you'd have seen we are talking about the Phenom 945, which is R500 less than an i5 750. Also, the 965 is only so expensive here because of our weird economy. In many other countries it is 3/4 of the price of a i5 750. So I'll say it again. Value for money. Third time lucky perhaps?

How can you compare a 5850 against a gtx480 which cost almost twice the price(MR value for money)And you take 1 game only, that makes no sense at all.I can show you games where the 5870 will be faster than a gtx480 and the other way around. After all who is just going to play one game.LOL
Also you cant compare a amd 945 with the i5 750 as the amd would look like a intel celeron 1.8 againts the i5 750.Anyone who takes 5 min to think about buying a new pc and the only diffs would be R300/400 between the 2 cpu's will buy the i5 for sure.

Oh so now value for money comes into it all of a sudden? I was proving a point about the GPUs not being equal as you stated. And no a 945 runs at 3ghz, only 0.4ghz less than the 965. So it should only be 10% slower. Since the 965 and i5 750 are on par, that makes the 945 10% less expensive for 25% less cost. Also, you get the AM3 platform, which allows you to upgrade to 6 core CPUs. Can the 1156 platform do that? No. Plus its being replaced end of next year. Will Intel make sure the new CPUs are backwards compatible? No. So there are other cost savings to take into account as well.

PS - you've shown how little you know by comparing the 945 to a celeron. Nevermind saying all nice GPUs are the same

Edit: also R400 is a lot of money for some people and can easily be the deciding factor. Again just shows your lack of understanding

Rico0505,

My lad... I THINK YOU JUST GOT KNOCKED THE **** OUT!

Archer obviously is the smarter one here. We all know that the Intel vs AMD for performance, Intel will win, but for "bang for buck" there is no chance Intel will stay top dog.

OP, go for the AMD route, will work out better. More space for upgrading to hexacore in the future, like stated already.

I said the 945 would look like a celeron COMPARED to the i5 750(CAN YOU READ).Also the 965 is not on par with a i5 750,the i5 is way better.I love amd dont get me wrong, its just that you cannot compare ANY amd today with intel. And also you started with value for money not me.You cant compare a 5850 with a gxt 480,thats like comparing a amd 965 with a i7 980.Most gpu's in certian price range perform more or less the same, which cannot be said for amd and intel.Read any article where amd and intel cpu are tested and the only place where amd is close is on gaming. Now you start clocking the i5/i7 (which clocks like a dream) and the diffs between the 2 is like the GRAND CANYON.You struggle to get 600 to 800 mhz extra from amd and the intel clocks 1.6ghz extra easy.

Op please dont go amd route, you will kick yourself later!!

Please, the hexacore was compared in test againts i7 860 cpu which beat it silly in all test, and the amd struggled to get to 3.6ghz.And the i7 860 is only a quad core ..LOL

Again dont see any reason to go amd as the value for money issue is getting very thin now.

So GTX470 and HD5870 perform the same, yet they vary in price. Proved wrong again with your 'similar price GPU = similar performance' theory. And you can easily compare a phenom 965 to an i5 750 seeing how they perform roughly the same except in your precious benchmarks (that so few people care about) and video encoding (that so few people do). And yes, the i5 overclocks like a dream, with way higher power draw and heat output than the Phenom. So there is quite a high price to pay. Whereas the 965 and 955 can overclock 400mhz while undervolted, thus no additional power draw, and very little additional heat. Also, the Phenom are easier to OC since they have an unlocked multiplier.

According to your precious benchmarks the 1055T beats the i5 750 (both are +-R2000) by an average of 25%. So what now? You going to abandon your benchmark theory?

Sorry you clock a 965 with 400mhz and undervolt it.LOL
Shows you how much you know about clocking,my i5 750 clocked 4ghz easy with 1.2 volts, and yes made less heat than what my amd 965 did at 3.7ghz.
The only thing you can compare a amd 965 with is the lga775 Q9550 and Q9650,and it still gets beaten by them. Also the unlocked multi means nothing as the amd cpu gets to its limits very quick without even getting near the unlocked multi,so why you bring that up i dont know.
The only reason to buy the amd would be if you realy cant get the extra R300/400,even then i would still begg, borrow or steal to rather go intel.

You two dingbats are derailing the dudes thread with your epenis sword fights.
