Waze seems more precise with timing / traffic etc... I have it, Gmaps and Amaps all installed though. Really like Gmaps offline maps functionality for when im not in signal range

Please bear in mind that this is and always has been BS :D

Waze, I have it running almost always.

1. Tells me where cops are
2. Tells me the speed limit
3. Tells me traffic
4. Tells me where the potholes are.

If I'm going on holiday and driving out of my usual routes, then especially!

Just a few questions to all the guys still using Map Books...most streets don't have legible street names anymore...do you guys count the streets from the last one you could read, or how do you do it? Why the resistance to technology that makes getting somewhere so much easier?

I used to be a sales rep many years ago, and using a map book was part of my daily life. When GPS's came out I was first in line to buy a Garmin. Bought it on a Sunday, and that Monday, navigating the streets of Joburg became an instant breeze. The only time I ever had issues with my Garmin was in Durban, where my Garmin had all the one-way streets the wrong way around, and when they recently changed many street names, I used to have to call each company and ask them what the street name used to be. And a map book would have given the same problem.

Another problem I had with a map book was going on holiday and having the wife navigate. The map book lead to so many arguments. And the argument usually started when my wife would say "You were supposed to take the offramp we just passed!", or "You were supposed to turn left at the street we just passed."...At least the person on navigation apps tells you where to turn before you get there...

Can we talk about how bad the new Google Maps update looks, it looks horrendous

Except Google maps uses waze traffic data so why?

My anecdotal experience is that they have different routing mechanisms.

Google maps looks at the main routes, finds the least busy one and sends you that way.
Waze will try to save you 30 seconds on your route by sending you on a trip that includes turning right across 4 lanes of traffic, through a tiny alley, and then over another 3 difficult intersections.

Primarily Apple Maps, but have Waze and Google Maps installed just in case.

When I have it unmuted it’s just so much better at volume levelling my music and the voice navigation in general is better and less robotic.

It also has the Waze features to report stuff, which oddly Google Maps is lacking.

What would be nice is the speed indicator which is missing in SA which only Waze does.

Google maps has speedometer on Android.... Just have to enable it in the navigation settings. Probably not available on IOS then

It shows speedo, but not the speed limit.

HERE maps does and you can also set it to alert when you exceed the speed limit by a certain amount.
