Which PC will be faster?

Just got back, have the 500GB HDD... they gave me KingMax memory instead of Hynix... never heard of them...

I recon I've proved that wrong once with the above AMD box running SQL 2005... it was 10x faster than a server spec'd almost like above... took them (IBM/DELL <-- can't remember which) two weeks to trace the problem the the firmware on one of the controllers.

Then the Xeon was probably running on a penlight battery :)

I doubt if any AMD will come close to a Dual CPU Xeon 7542 (3Ghz per core ,8 cores): http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Kingmax is good and comes with a lifetime warranty, well worth the extra R5

It was R30 more than the price list :p

Yup...as mentioned....firmware/bios/driver issue somewhere. They actually flew me up to Jhb. with my AMD box because they didn't believe there was a problem with the server.

You also don't mention WHICH Intel processor is running in the Intel system

ya, based on the motherboard and age, that's probably a good guess. Prescott, u think?

Anyway...built the Media Center last night, its almost complete.

Two Issues
1.) Silicon Image sil 3114 onboard SATA controller driver <-- can't find the Vista driver anywhere, the only driver I can find is for a PCI to SATA controller.
2.) Not sure if this is an issue yet, I have the hauphegner 500 tv-card, If I use the SPDIF out on the DSTV decoder to the SPDIF-In on the motherboard, I'm guesing DSTV sound is not going to be recorded? <-- anyone ever tried this, or done it succesfully? I couldn't find the SPDIF cable's I had, and Audio Vision only had 1... .so I struck out.

LoL...

Well does it sound like it's taking off? :D

I dont have a stock fan... so no :P

I bought this one fan once, I still have it, I'll upload a pic, it was huge, and blue and orange in colour, when the PC was on it literally sounded like a boeing.... scared the hell out of people at lans.

LOL! By contrast, I had a Socket 478 machine with stock fan, and I swapped fans with a friend... man, did he ever pull one over on me! It ran super cool, but after a month or so I couldn't take the noise anymore!!!!

Yeh... mines in a Zalman media center case though, which is designed to dampen the noise, so I can't even hear the PC when its running.... the only way I know its on is by the led and lcd in front.
