My 3.2L V6 Alfa Romeo 159 might be written off by insurance after getting stuck in deep water after a recent storm. Should insurance write it off, I need to shop for another car.

I'd like something sporty (especially coming from a 3.2L V6). I've looked at my dream car - the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, but they are way out of my price range.

My options I've been looking at in order of my favourites are;

2017 Volvo S60 Polestar with 40K km on the clock;

2019 Subaru WRX ES Premium with 36K km;

2018 VW Golf GTi with 52K km;

Brand new Polo GTi

The practical side of my has also been looking at VW Amarok's and Toyota Fortuna's, but my mind is set on a performance sedan or hot hatch.

Any other cars I should be looking at or avoid?

That Volvo......WOW. Refinement way above the others you consider with a brutal engine.

BMW M140i

This one looks good, a bit more than I want to spend, but seems to be in great nik. Looks fantastic in white too!

2017 BMW 1 Series M140i 57K km for R550k;

Here's another 2017 M140i with 61K km for a much more palatable R480K - not sure why it's R70K cheaper than the one above;

What if you look at the Alfa giulia 2.0T super, the quatro is a dream but for 500k you can get the 2.0 version- 147kw.

Audi SQ5 TDI, has performance, practical and fuel consumption all ticked.

The older model that will fit budget has the following stats, im sure a tune can push it even futher.

Model: Audi SQ5 TDI Quattro
Engine: 3,0-litre, V6, biturbo-diesel
Transmission: eight-speed auto
Power: 230 kW at 3 900-4 500 r/min
Torque: 650 N.m at 1 450-2 800 r/min

Is this still a wise decision with the way the fuel price is heading?

Maybe nature is trying to talk to you.....

Then again, some performance cars are probably lighter on fuel than some ordinary cars.

Maybe a Honda Hybrid?

The white one does look really good, It is More expensive because it has a lot more extras compared to the blue one. But if you dont care about the bigger infotainment screen i would take the blue one and use the R70k on an M-sport exhaust/Akrapovic.

problem with this car is it very low key and looks boring.If you didnt know any better this car could be driven by a person in the 80s its so boring.

All Audis are boring, and this one looks really dated now.
its part of their design language.They make fast no frills cars with nice interiors but no x-factor.Its the reason why they sell in volume.In the end they know their target market , and are in the game to sell in high volume.
