Uhm, I beg to differ, Audis are not fast, nor do they have nice interiors, and lastly audis dont sell in volume. infact out of all the Germans they sell the least by a huge margin.

Audi SQ5 considering you mention Amarok and Fortuner! So much practicality (and efficiency if wanted).
Dated interior but so many add-ons as standard equipment. I was about to buy one but then went Q7 (also since I have V8 and 2.0T sedans). Beautiful modern exterior.
And no, you can definitely see it’s an ‘S’ Audi. Quad pipes, stance from the rear, ride height, wheels, honeycomb vents/diffuser, etc.
Anyway looks aren’t overly important once behind the wheel and not fazed about impressing others.
Otherwise if sedan then Volvo HANDS DOWN!
What about RS3 Sportback? Or RS4 Avant, last of the great V8’s!
Car enthusiasts I looked up to always said “You have to own a V8 once in your lifetime”.

Most Germans look boring because they look too similar to the others in the range. That's the problem with adopting a design philosophy and apply it across all models. The M/AMG/S all suffer from this despite looking sportier...

haha, bad comparison, Audi shot itself in the foot by owning VW and porsche, Their focus seems to be on those two and they have completely neglected themselves, they dont make great cars anymore.my bad , iam comparing to scoobies

I think the Volvo 260 Polestar is my number 1 (if it's still available when and if I make the purchase), and then the M140i my 2nd option.
I owned a 2005 BMW 118i, and that car was absolute trash. Engine valve stem seals had to be redone at only R130k. The early BMW N42 engines were notoriously problematic, but I'm sure those problems were ironed out, loving the looks of the modern 1 Series.
Not so keen on Audi in general. Outside of the "S" class, they are extremely underpowered for what you pay for.

Volvo will be difficult to sell, unless you are planning on writing it off too, Maintenance will also be an issue, However i do understand that the heart wants what it wants.
The straight 6 in the BMW is very reliable and highly under stressed, actually its one of the greatest engines currently on the market. Parts and maintenance will not be an issue,(there is a whole community for this car) finding an indie for it also wont be a problem, The gearbox (8 speed ZF) is also the best gearbox currently on the market, Once you get bored with your 250kw you can mod it to 300kw easy.
All i am saying is the M140i = Perfection and it literally has no shortfalls. nada.

For 500k get a M140i that still has some plan left. You won't be disappointed. The b58 motor is solid and just sounds way better than all the other 4 pot bangers.

This. BMW purposely under-tuned this beast. It's very easy to get a 140i to push close to 400bhp/580NM with a simple stage 1 tune. Add the stage 3 xhp gearbox tune and you'll have a rock solid sleeper that is fun to drive at all times, whether you're whacking it around bends or cruising to work.

Thank you for this! I'm definitely leaning towards the M140i. Sounds solid overall and a much newer design and seemingly a less highly strung engine than the Polestar.

I'm not here to break world records. Just want a sporty hatchback / sedan - not the worlds fastest car being the Delta Motor Corporation of South Africa Opel Monza 160i GSi Car of the Year 1991. No one can afford that, or handle its power - in reverse with the aircon on.
