Hello

I am looking to get an automatic daily driver that will last me for the next 10 years & it must be comfortable to drive with services not been too expensive.

Budget is around the 450K mark. No kids, just need something practical & long lasting.

Currently looking at the Mazda 3 (https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-fo...tina/26778749?vf=2&db=1&s360=1&so=1&pl=1&po=1) or Corolla (https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-for-sale/toyota/corolla/xr/26785791?vf=1&db=0&s360=0&so=0&pl=0&po=1)

Anything I should add to my list?

Personally I would go for the Mazda, the Corolla comes across like an Uber vehicle. I've had 15 vehicles, 9 different brands and so far Audi was the most expensive to maintain with surprisingly the french brands (Renault & Citroen) being the cheapest - not saying they are the best choice but that was the reality of my situation.

Not into VW/Audi.

Thanks everyone. I'll add the F30 to the list.
Goodluck, The budget is a bit awkward, there isn’t much in that price range, the Mazda 3 will probably be discontinued soon due to lack of sales, the Corolla too since it doesn’t sell anymore. Maybe look at the Corolla cross. I am trying to think of a turbo charged car in that price range that is reliable and won’t look outdated in 10 years and it is a difficult one.

Nope the M3/Mazda 3 is not discontinued, the hatch is still very much for sale, the sedan was pulled. My Cuz has that exact model so I am somewhat familiar with it, between that & the Rolla the M3 every day.

Another option to consider is the Civic (the 1.5T sport) sedan, that is another proper option except for the kark basic infotainment system.

Any good Hyundai/Kia options? They have long warranties. Though they not that affordable any longer

No I wasn’t saying it is discontinued, but rather I fear it might get discontinued within the next year or two(I could be wrong though) , it doesn’t really sell that much and Mazdas cash cow is the CX5.

I fear the same for the Corolla(Uber quest excluded) since the cross is eating up all the sales so it might not make financial sense for Toyota SA to keep it on the market.

Ops situation does seem a bit difficult though, if his budget was R400k or less then there would be a plethora of small cars to choose from, or if it was R550k and higher there would also be a whole plethora of bigger cars to choose from. R450k is tough to work with, my brain is about to explode.

Have you considered the 320d?
Gonna agree with you on this one based on the budget good cars used but find a stock standard one or get a 330D if you can find one in the F30 LCI version.

BMW are slightly more costly to run and I am basing this on my ownership of 3 in my life time and comparing it over my Audi but like the OP said not into VW and Audi which is a shame cause the value for money is amazing and the engines are shared over many different platforms so parts availabilty and pricing are always good.

BMWs the thing to look out for are the plastic cooling system, and gaskets that was my major expenses on owning a BMW.

OP also said he/she wants to keep the car for 10 years highly suggest a diesel as they last longer if properly maintain esp a low revving high output diesel like a 3.0 straight 6 or V6, make sure your oil is changed in time with the best quality oil you can find and filters get it from the dealer thats the only part I get from the dealer is an Oil Filter or Bosch/Mann Filters from GoldWagen.

That upgraded screen is so so beautiful.
Does the screen allow you to play DVDs or videos via SD card or USB?

On the Audi you must have Navigation Plus which I do, unlocked it via OBD2 and I can download youtube videos provided they not higher than 360p resolution it will play it, it kinda cool when you parked or have passengers in the car, I have downloaded all my music on video format on a 32GB SD card listen to them just audio when alone but when I have passengers I play the videos awesome for a long trip -

As far as I’m aware, yes. My Mate had a 340i with the upgraded screen and we watched videos on it. Good times.
