Which performance car for R500k?

To be honest I just want my Alfa Romeo 159 back. It's been over two weeks and I've heard nothing from insurance. Yes, it's an old car with an extremely fuel-inefficient guzzling 3.2L V6 that gets outperformed by modern 2L hatchbacks - but it's extremely fun to drive, got plenty power on tap and had only done 80K km... It's still a baby!

Hopefully insurance come back and say the water damage is minimal, but being an Alfa, I'd imagine insurance companies would also just write them off when it comes to repairs - especially considering Alfa Romeo's non-existent resale value.

This is the reason I'm looking for new wheels;

Rain and storm for Cpt

If you're an Alfa guy then seriously just get the Giulia. Nothing else is going to feel the same, not even a beemer...

They do pop up randomly over time.
Test drove on last year that stood at William Simpson for a while going for below R380k and less than 60k on the clock.
Was white in colour with normal halogens, hence I walked away.

That's what puts me off the Giulia - you're spending M3 money and getting halogen headlights and Citi Golf tyres.

If I can get a higher-spec 2.0T with the LED spec - I'm sold.
 
why you limiting yourself to new cars ? There are tons of proper performance cars that are + 10 years old.

As a subaru guy that wrx is a joke , its not a real subaru.

New cars are so much better than old manuals. Technology has come a long way.

Trust me. I drove a 2002 MGTF 160 as a daily driver (the Mazda MX-5 or Toyota MR-2 competitor)... and the nasty 2021 Huyundi i10 I have as a current rental drives far better as an everyday driver.

Modern automatics are leagues ahead of any manual transmission. They shift faster, are more efficient and offer more feature comforts than a manual transmission. Those that believe otherwise are living in a previous decade and haven't touched a modern automatic.

It's like saying you prefer a landline telephone over a cellular one.

There's nothing wrong with a manual if you know how to drive.

I've got the M235i and still love it after more than 7 years. No engine issues thus far, other than the turbo boost pipe which popped off. Funnily enough, the main thing to "go" was the ZF 8 speed box. Minor lag/rubber band in one of the gears. Completely drivable, but ZF replaced it for me.

Not great, as I do a lot of traffic driving and when I get a bit of clear road tend to floor the pedal to enjoy the acceleration and let the engine run at max revs. So 12 liters per 100km for me.
