Which performance car for R500k?

dont know when 300+ kw is slow ....but the sound is more than good enough even if you slow
300kw in a heavy car with a terrible gearbox is slow, and you need to be at the top of the revs to extract that power so it wont be very economical.

Would strongly reconsider buying any second hand performance car that does not have some kind maintenance plan.
Things can get expensive very quickly when they go wrong

i sat in both and they not slow

yes the new turbos and schit cars are little faster

but the sound and tyre burning is a fun performance car

Okay maybe slow was the wrong word, But they dont have the Oomph a an M140i would have. They do sound incredible though however they also need a lot of maintenance.

Volvo...they're awesome and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Both the engine and the extras inside.

They are much larger cars with faster or at worse same 0-100 times as a m140, but in gear acceleration will leave a m140 for dead. Lacking ooomph or slow are words I would not use to describe them.
It is not that i dont like the 140, i love it, although the m135 when it originally came out was probably one of the best value for money cars out there.
Having driven all 3 cars mentioned and owning 2 of them my opinion is that the m140 is not even remotely in the same category or class of car, but then again its not supposed to be.

you can do much more with a 140i with software and stuff

but nothing compared to the v8s

Yeah agreed, Ive been in some ridiculous 140's, but from a personal preference perspective modifying cars is not something I would do unless I had money to burn and it was not my daily driver.

Thing is with our crap fuel you need a custom tune and need to add some e98 to achieve some good power. It's not for everyone and requires some tweaking. I haven't had issues (touch wood) and been running stage 2 for a while on a 140i. Then again, I don't beat it around nonstop, but I do give it the beans when conditions allow it.

I've had many confused looks by owners who thought their cars are faster (- :
My 140i also is bone stock exterior wise. It's a nice sleeper.

For highway commute I still prefer my V8 though. For town diving the 140i, it's meant to go sideways and not in a straight line :-))

I used to say "get your V8 while petrol is still cheap". I stopped spouting such nonsense about a month ago.

a buddy of mine bought him a jeep SRT8 about 3 months ago . Think it has the 5.7 hemi engine

i feel his pain

but like he said he is paying for the fuel so he wanted a car with some guzzling power

Vanilla Hemi = 5.7L
SRT8 = 6.4L

Sooo... I chickened out of a high-performance car and bought a 2017 Volvo V40 T4. 2.0 turbo instead, with decent acceleration of 0-100km/h in 6.9s. Pretty much the same as my outgoing 3.2L V6 Alfa 159 at 7.1s, but more economical and an auto geartronic gearbox.

Has all the bells and whistles... Keyless entry, blindspot monitoring, lane-keep assist, panoramic roof, sat-nav, front and rear PDC, heated seats, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control... the list goes on.
