Which performance car for R500k?

That is only true if your bakkie is utilitarian and old

New things like GD6 Hiluxes and Amaroks are not used for hauling this, people also seem to have learned this.

Oddly enough I'd go the other way. Bakkie/SUV for hauling the family about on weekends, and a fun car as a daily. If you're going to spend most of your travel time in a car, you should at least enjoy doing so...
 
Had the D/C 4x4 and fun daily drive. Eventually the bakkie just became way to expensive to run. Averaging 6-8km/l in town, even though it was a diesel, really hurt the pocket, and this was more than 10 years ago, when diesel was 'n 1/3rd of the price it is now.

My advise, just stay clear of 'n bakkie. Not worth it.

With me now having a bike and a car, I thought tjom I'll be on the bike elke dag, but nooooo, I like the chill aspect of my car all of a sudden, then again each to their own.

The 8 speed ZF is pure magic. I had one in my X3 and its lovely.

ZF runs specials from time to time, I think I paid R3500 to get it serviced a few years ago.

I waited a year for a ZF service special that never came. Cost 5.2k or something eventually. Should have done it 30kkm earlier rather than waiting for the special..
 
Polo with an airfilter. Can't go wrong, it's far easier to offload when you are bored with it. Try that that with the Polestar, or the M140 once you have added 60,000 kms.
 
M140i sounds lovely if you dont care about fuel prices or consumption as you will be pushing the car to hear the glorious exhaust note.
320/330d is a fun economic car.

Just buy a 2.0T Giulia, it's the natural upgrade and you will be happy.
You will miss the 3.2 rumble (not as good as a Busso, so no real loss here), but you will save at the pump and still be quicker.

Or save all this money and just by another 159.

Not that bad if you feather it. Then again, if you buy a performance car you shouldn't complain about the fuel (:
 
Another vote for the BMW M240i.
I have the N54 135i Coupe, and to be honest it hasn't been that bad, especially out of plan. That said, it's only on 140k KM, so not exactly proof of exemplary reliability.

Even if you don't do donuts or drift or whatever, a RWD car just feels different around the corners, and I love it. If I were to replace it, I would really want something similar. That new M240i looks really tasty, if crazy expensive.
 
BMW 330d M Sport. Got the power and frugal when driving normal.

Op already had 1 insurance claims, lodging one for theft 2 weeks later will be bad for his record.
 
Get a MK7.5 Fiesta ST, slap on stage 3 with Hybrid turbo, good for 300KW on the wheels, and laugh at all the BMW M's and AMG Mercs.

Been looking at the Focus / Fiesta ST / RS, but Ford's interiors are so cheap and nasty. Even the Mustang looks like the interior trim came from the general parts bin. Not a fan of Ford overall.

After some further research, these are my options so far.

1) 2017 BMW 140Mi - Solid build quality, brilliant B58 engine and great reviews overall.
2) 2017 Volvo S60 Polestar - Dated design and dated interiour but good looking vehicle, highly strung supercharged and turbocharged engine a concern for longevity. Otherwise great reviews overall and superb build quality.
3) 2019 Subaru WRX ES Premium. Dated boxer engine, but reliable solid performance. Probably the most boring but most reliable car out of the bunch.

Really keen on the M140i overall!
