I'm not sure whether I should wait for the G3, or just choose one of the already available phones. Those being either the Sony Z2, the HTC M8 or the S5. The problem is the G3 might only be release in SA in Q3 and I don't feel like waiting that long.

They are all good choices. I personally am one that is impatient so if I were you I would pick the available phone that you like the most :-)

I've got the Z1 at the moment, Z2 doesn't seem like a major difference. So, in all fairness it's actually my last choice of them all. It just depends on stock of the others:whistle:

Get a Nexus 5 and save R5k. There is nothing extra in the phones you mentioned that warrants the extra cost

Yes, there are.

All those phones have very good cameras, while the one in the Nexus 5 is mediocre.

I would say the G3 would be my personal choice.

I'm also waiting for the G3. All those other flagships each have something that puts me off:

Experia Z2 has the glass back, not only more fragile but picks up fingerprints.

One M8, a 4mp camera these days is just not acceptable (no matter how ultra those pixels are).

Galaxy S5, I think it's the most horrible looking flagship I've seen to date. Plus all the touchwiz bloat doesn't do it any favours.

For me, at least so far, the G3 ticks all the right boxes for me so I'll just wait it out.

Certain apps are not yet optimized to work on QHD screens. Candy Crush Saga for example springs to mind.

I reckon it's the most exciting phone of 2014.

First thought it would be the Sony Z2, but Sony could have made it smaller and rounder edges, users complaining it's uncomfortable to hold.

Agree that HTC committed suicide by using the 4MP camera.

S5 is not bad, but extremely shoddy and tacky workmanship - see the S5 peeling thread.

The S5 Prime might swing my vote, but so far LG has it.

I think Candy Crushing is about the last thing on my requirement list, it comes after "Could my phone be used as a weapon in case of zombie apocalypse" and "Can my phone understand whale."

By far the most exciting phone for me too. I was a bit disappointed that we got a plastic phone after the teaser videos which made it look like metal, but from the reviews it sounds like it has a nice enough feel. Plus they give you a removable battery which probably would not have been possible with a metal casing.

LOL

You are joking, right?

Nope. Was in a review on Engadget if memory serves.

Edit:
All told, while it's a great display, it's a bit like having an HDTV in 2004. Great if you can get the content for it, otherwise it's just a good TV. Over time, more and more apps and content will be made for such resolutions, but for now, they're scarce. In fact, the resolution appears to make some apps incompatible -- and unfortunately, the Play Store hides apps that won't run on your phone. Usually this is to stop older handsets from downloading apps they can't handle. But, if you try searching for Candy Crush Saga, for example, it won't come up. So, whether intentional or not, it appears some developers haven't optimized their apps for 2K/QHD displays yet.

Most important is that you need to know that it's a proper upgrade from a Galaxy S2. :p

Of course. Lol the GS2 is like a rock, I've dropped that phone twice this week alone, not a scratch :D I once dropped it down a flight of concrete steps, I thought for sure it was the end but somehow it survived (although that fall left a small crack in the plastic).

I have an S4 now, think it's my last Samsung. I would also say, go for an Nexus. So, on the one hand you have a great phone with a mediocre camera on the other hand you have a *** phone with a great camera....mmmmmmm

Of the ones you listed, I'd say the G3 or the Sony

Personally, I have decided to get myself a Lenovo phone next, because almost everything in my house is already Lenovo and they just work for me. Just a shame no one stock them. Samsung was just a too big let down.
