Which SSD

If you do manage to find one in a store you will probably end up paying a few 100 more.

I think I am going to go with either Takealot or Wootware depending on delivery cost.

Takealot has free delivery, but the drive also costs more, so it's a case of glass half full... :) I have Rory from wootware on skype and have always got the best service from them. ;)

nice post, all correct and very well put. You will see that OCZ were able to release their firmware update almost a month sooner than Adata coz of this relationship.

Still, if it was a friday afternoon and wanted it for the weekend... I would grab the Adata for sure if the OCZ was out of stock :)

Where would you be able to get either on a friday afternoon? :wtf:

Sorry guys what are you 2 on about :D ?

some mobo's have a combination of a marvel controller, and the intel controller for SATA III

the marvel one sucks ass, the intel one is full speed. make sure you plug your drive into the intel driven port on your mobo. its known and widespread, so not an issue imho

what mobo do you have??

Vertex 3 is always SATA3. Do you mean between Vertex and Vertex 3?

At that price I would rather take the Vertex 3, even at that price it is still faster even on a SATA2 controller.

In fact I would take the Patriot Pyro or OCZ Agility 3 on a budget, both are also SATA3 but unless you run benchmarks you won't tell the difference in performance between them and the Vertex 3.

Sorry I meant Vertex Plus 120GB at R1700 vs Vertex III at R2300 so its actually R500 diffs. Budget on R500 isn't an issue but hate it to pay more for hype/perception rather than real value on price difference.

Marvell 9128 chip:

So what does that mean?
I see this on their site:
* SATA3 SSDs are not recommended for use in RAID 0 mode on Marvell SE9128 ports.

I pointed out this fact in the beginning of the thread ;)

But I've run it on a Marvel 9128, it wasn't as good as the Intel but it was still years ahead of mechanical drives.
