Which to use for a Linux workstation /gaming
I have two CPUs an i7 930 and an i3 3240 which would you use for the workstation

Looks pretty evenly matched, though the i3 3240 might have USB3.0 and SATA 6Gbps?

Why exactly are you doing with it?
The i7 hands down though, 4 vs 2 cores.

Both those CPU are quite old though, good luck getting a good mobo.

Even a 2200G is 20-50% faster than the i7, and it's "cheap", especially if you consider having to get the mobo and stuff, as that can be quite difficult with old machines.

Then the i7. I'd still expect either of them to die within a year or two at most, the components are quite old.
