Which would you choose and why?

I'm on a car shopping spree, not because I want to, but because I have to and from what I saw already, I have settled on two options. OK, I can't exactly settle on two options; I eventually will have to pick one.

Anyway, these are the options:

2006 Ford Fiesta 2.0i ST
R 129 995
Engine 4 cylinders, 1999cc, 112kW Transmission Manual Type Hatch
Colour Silver
Mileage 45000
Details Excellent; Full House
Installment R 2 992 pm
Based on 15% over 54 Months with 10% Deposit & R0 extras. Total Repayment R161593. Total Finance Cost R44598

2007 HYUNDAI ACCENT 1.6 GLS HIGH SPEC A/T
COLOUR: SILVER
MILEAGE: 36293 Km
PRICE: R 115,750

On the Hyundai, I can get a 4% discount off the list price, through one of the loyalty programmes I subscribe to; add to that my deposit of 10% and I can knock off as much as R18 000 off the finance. At the same interest rate and terms as the Fiesta, my repayment would be R2500.

My dilemma is this, the Hyundai would make absolute financial sense:o, but the Fiesta would be so much more exciting to drive :D. Would it make sense to spend more on the Fiesta just for the WOW factor, or just to be sane and go for the Hyundai?
 
Buying a car and financial sense shouldn't be in the same sentence. You'll be losing money either way. If you can afford it, I would go for the ST. That's assuming you don't have a family and if you're not too concerned about space. I would also haggle the price a bit. Tell the salesman you are going to buy a Accent if you can't get the ST for R120k
 
Bra, how do you compare a Ford with a Hyundai?

Yes, it's a case of the lesser of two evils, literally and figuratively.

I am more than leaning towards the ST but I never even thought of negotiating. Thanks for that suggestion. :)

Not yet.

When I went to the dealer on Saturday, someone had already applied for finance for it so it was practically sold but the salesman took my details just in case the other guys' finance didn't go through - they were going to get an answer on Monday. Today, the car is still there, and it's still being advertised; seems like the finance application didn't go through then.

I'm almost too afraid to call them :( . People that I've consulted have tried to steer me to the sane route, so they're going to grill me if I should go for the ST but my poor heart is telling me to :confused:

Your resale on the ST is much much much better.
Do you intend to sell it soon? If your answer is no, then buy the Hundai.

Your insurance on the ST is going to be horrible.
 
If you really want the ST, take it. If the Hyundai had a manual transmission I would have preferred that over the Fiesta. Fuel consumption and insurance-wise, the Hyundai just makes more sense.

True that; I haven't even given that a thought. Naturally, I'd be paying more for a 2.0 than a 1.6 but mitigating factors would be
- that I live in a security complex; might even park it in a garage for added security
- the tracking device I'm planning to fit; it's an early-detection system that is always on, and can be tracked online and via your mobile
- the anti-theft device I'm planning to fit
- my age and my accident-free record
 
Just give them a call as another person...i always do that...I make my voice thick and start asking questions about the car you'll quickely hear another story.

I'm buying for keeps, that's why I went pre-owned/second-hand.

Auto Pedigree sells only that specific model of the Accent, and yes, the auto transmission is a bit of a let-down.

In this economic climate? Unless you have cash on hand, go for the Hyundai. Less debt in the long run, you will be able to afford the petrol to go on holiday ;)
 
Dude...can you afford the Fiesta? if yes then do it...there's nothing worse than driving something you DON"T want...ask all VW owners!
 
I would also consider the maintenance costs and the remainder of the motor/service plan & warranty as a deciding factor.
 
Like I said...if one can afford an M3 and not listen to people telling you about maintenance and petrol and insurance...coz that's what afford means, the Total cost of ownership, not just the initial investment...Don't buy boring Hyundai...its for men who've lost their manhood!
