Not sure if you're able to source it locally but this is the site I buy off of:

Timorous Beastie Meet The Beast

Douglas Laing’s ‘Timorous Beastie’ is a blended malt that’s been put together using Highland whiskies. There’s Dalmore, Glengoyne, Glen Garioch and a host of others in every dram. The expression takes its name from the Robert Burns poem ‘to a mouse’ – but it’s anything but timorous!

I haven't tasted this one, but the ones that I have....not for me at all. This distillery's stuff should just be blended away IMHO.
 
This was my bargain find of the week. Paid R549 which was cheaper than the normal Rock Oyster which was sat right beside it.

Great bargain. Maybe they're trying to get rid of old stock. the name changed to Rock Island during April 2019 already.

That price is more than R1k cheaper than RRP.
 
The football team I support released a limited edition Loch Lomond single malt. I got one delivered to her in Glasgow, now I need to make a plan to get it here :unsure:

Ouch indeed. I’ve got a bottle of the 3 Ships 12 year old there as well so reckon I’ll have to wait until July when she plans to get over for a holiday and can bring both.

Only allowed to bring one bottle into SA, strictly speaking. So be aware of that.

Over and above the duty-free allowance, you may choose to pay customs duty at a flat-rate of 20% on goods which you acquired abroad or in any duty-free shop.
The total value of these additional goods, new or used, may not exceed R20 000 per person or R2000 for crew members. Flat-rate goods are also exempted from payment of VAT.
Should the value of the additional goods in question exceed R20 000 or should you decide not to make use of this facility, the flat-rate assessment falls away and the appropriate rates of duty and VAT must be assessed and paid on each individual item.
It should be kept in mind that in certain cases goods may be liable to rates of customs duty in excess of 20%; others could be subject to lower rates, while some goods may be free of duty.
In addition, 15% value-added tax will be payable on goods assessed by tariff.
It must, however, be noted that the application of this provision is subject to the total value of goods declared under the entire rebate item not exceeding R25 000.
In other words, all consumables, the duty-free allowance of R5000 and the items to be assessed on the flat rate must in value not exceed R25 000.
The flat rate allowance will be granted an unlimited number of times during the 30 day cycle after an absence of 48 hours or more from the country provided the goods do not exceed R20 000.

Just stick it in the hold luggage and if stopped just say oh sorry I'll pay duty no problem, these were about R/£ <insert low amount>. :\

Not to tempt fate, but as I am often working in remote areas, I've entered some countries with 3 or 4 bottles of whisky in my suitcase and never had a problem. In Jakarta I'd take 4 bottles and 5 x 1 litre red wine cartons. They even x-rayed my suitcase once and let me go.

As a fail safe, I also have 3 x hip flasks filled for each trip as well. One of them a 500ml Stanley. Oh, and of course I'd hand carry a litre duty free as well :p

I wonder how many bottles I should risk in my suitcase for my Netherlands move?

Watch them tear that VVM out of my passport and send me straight back home...:oops:

Easily three, the biggest problem really is the weight so if you are on KLM it's usually only 23 kilos allowance. Another reason I generally fly Emirates or Qatar is the 2 suitcases for economy.

And take bottles that are in a tube. Open the top and stuff a couple of carrier bags or socks in to stop them rattling about. I also put each tube in a bag tied tight in case it breaks.

My clothes will go in my carry-on...booze and underpants in the hold.

My concern is that they will confiscate it if I do not declare it AND get caught.

My plan was always to plead ignorance and offer to pay the duty. I never got stopped though and I've probably transported booze in my carry on luggage 20 or more times.

I'm on a UK passport so it's never affected me, but I'm not sure if you have to fill in a declaration going into the EU when you are on an SA passport, and that would mean outright lying if they ask if you are carrying more than a litre. So considerations there as well.
