Is Bunnahabhain peaty? The bottle has always interested me but I was not able to try it at the whisky festival.

I dont like peated wisky at all so hopefully its not.

The distillery overlooks the Sound of Islay, a narrow channel of sea that separates Islay from the neighbouring island of Jura. The whisky produced at Bunnahabhain is different to those made on the rest of Islay. It is the lightest Islay malt and has none of the rich, peaty and smoky flavours of its neighbours.

Nice, will give it a try thanks.

And the best part of Bunnahabhain is...? South Africa's Distell company owns the distillery.

I've had the 12 and the 18 there is slight and I mean slight Peat on them. The guys in my Whisky club who hate peat said that they could just taste a slight smokiness which was actually quite pleasant. I wasn't blown away by the 18 much better Whiskys peaty or not in that prices range. If you buying expensive whisky for yourself maybe try it at a decent bar first even if it costs R50+ a shot. A least you wont be left with a R1500+ bottle of whisky you don't like.

This is good advice. Also join a website or club and go to as many tasting as possible.

Well if there is one industry in South Africa that runs well, its the Liquor industry. Visit any urban or rural town and you will find at least one bottle store.

Heya guys

I've been looking for a bottle of Kavalan for quite a while, (I asked the question here not long ago) I found a couple of places but it seems only the Podium could be sourced, I even called up the importers.

I was searching for a specific wine that stole my heart in this year's Old Mutual wine award show. And here I found a gem of a online shop that came in at R25 per bottle less than Makro's price.

I took the chance and checked, excellent prices on spirits (rightfully they specialise in really special wines, rather than whiskey) but Nikka is R645, I think the cheapest I could find online was R699.

And there pops up a live chat message, asked the question, it wasn't 2 minutes with a positive answer that they can source, and the very next day I was notified by email that they are busy loading the prices onto the website. Delivery is on Monday can you imagine...

Give them a try, they are in Cape Town: https://www.port2port.wine/

Just received my packages. All very well presented, loving the packaging. They have their own boxes even for 2 bottles, which has a golden embossed seal. Very professional, the wines I bought each was wrapped in the dark navy paper, held together again with a golden seal, just smaller. I could not have asked for a better wrapping service, this is fit for a king.

Oh and of course the boxes are hundred percent in check, nothing stuck onto it, rather they are wrapped with those packaging cling wrap and the picking slip attached to that. As is they are fit next to a christmas tree.

On special for R269 at Checkers.

Don't you find it difficult to drink out of a square glass? I had a couple of square glasses that I absolutely hated.

I do, but do have a few square glasses and if I get poured in one, I drink from the corner like a hobo.
