Next one to get then is the Szaerac Rye, around R650 and then you can see the difference between a bourbon and a rye whisky.

I've our schedules allow, get some sample bottles and visit me, I've got open bottles of:
Wild Turkey 101
Knob Creek
W.L Weller 12 year old
Crown Royal (Canadian Whisky)

You guys need to give Blanton's a shot too. Good stuff.

The Blanton's gold is almost R1000 now, was worth it at R600 a few years ago. Got this on the weekend when I bought the GWC's dad's collection. Oh, also got a bottle of Bulleit open.

I have a 1L bottle like this. Well, half of one...

Completely different blend to JW Green......and absolutely delicious.

Went out for dinner. For the first time I had a look at what whiskeys were available. Saw Laphroaig was available as it's one of the Islays I wanted to try, gave it a shot, delicious ... Definitely on the to buy list. Thanks again to all for the recommendation

Sazerac Rye is incredible. Also, the WhiskyBrother bottling of Woodford Reserve was probably one of the best bourbons I've ever had. Sadly sold out now.

Anyway I had an interesting experience on Saturday. I happened upon someone with a full Game of Thrones set. I was having a look at them and chatting about how much it would be to bring in a set by yourself. Long story short, I offered him R14.5k. He accepted and then when he was about to pack them for me, he had a change of heart and I still have my R14.5k, which is probably a good thing. I'm questioning the value of the collection...

What would it cost now versus when it was in stock? Judging by the prices on Masterofmalt it would have cost a lot less to bring it in yourself when it was in stock. There's still some bottles in stock on Masterofmalt.

Shipping, duty and customs does add quite a bit to your MoM bill....believe me, I know.

There are sets doing the rounds for around GBP500 (I've seen a few for GBP450). I've seen US based sets going for $1000 but you would be crazy to try bring this in from the US just baed on FX alone. If you can pick up a set for 450 GBP then after taking shipping, duties, VAT and FX into account, you're in for about 14K anyway.

I didn't find it to bad. I brought in 5 bottles of the Glenfiddich Winter Storm when they had it on special. Shopping/customs/clearance worked out to around R3500. I thought it was fairly reasonable.
