If you see see any good deals please post them here... especially Talikser for 350

That’s nowhere near as cheap as that. In my experience at SA duty free, a litre will cost you about the same as a 750 will in Checkers or wherever.

I should say, I usually grab a bottle of something when I land in Cape Town but the selection is pretty small in the way in.

I’m back home on the 26th so I’ll take a few pics of the selection and post here.

There is a larger selection on the way out. You can usually convince them to go fetch something when you land. You also have to option to purchase on the way out and collect when you land.

I never thought of that. I bought a bottle of Glennfiddich select cask on the way out, but you think I could buy something else and ask to pick up in return at a certain date?

Got mine from Makro just now

Nice, let us know what you think?

I've tried Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, and Maker's Mark so far. I keep going back to the Buffalo, it's just so good. But keen to explore more!

My friend recently did that. Purchased on the way out collected when he landed. Was a Bain's 15yo

Try the Knob Creek for a bourbon with higher rye content. Try the Sazerac Rye is you wanna experiment with rye Whisky.

I got the Sazerac on you recommendation and it's fantastic ^^

So last night while trying to find space in my bulging whisky cupboard, I came across this - my member's welcome pack from when I joined SMWS about 8 or 9 years ago:

Quite the package -soft feel cover box with magnetized opening.

When you open it you are greeted with this. That envelope holds your membership card. Mine is still in there.

You then open that and are greeted with this:

If you take out the handbook (which is in colour and contains the rules, history, facts, etc - very cool) then the following is underneath the member's handbook:

Take all of that out and then the final cover is revealed:

Which hides this:

From left to right:
1. 12yo Auchentoshan
2. 20yo Laphroaig o_O
3. 15yo Mortlach
4. 10yo Glenmo

edit - those are 100ml bottles

All of the above are single cask and cask strength. I still have a few bottles of SMWS in my collection including one of the finest Port Charlottes I have ever had which is about 67 or 69% ABV IIRC. It's a real pity that they are no longer around in SA. Apparently, a falling out over money by the two parties who ran it in SA resulted in their demise. They are now hesitant to re-enter the SA market according to someone who has recently approached them because of this.

Unfortunately, they have become a large commercial enterprise now but there are lots of articles on the net for you to google.

TL/DR - whisky!!!

Is this the first time you are trying Bulleit? It benefits from about 10/15 mins in the glass first. I enjoy it neat and cradle the glencairn glass in my hand to heat it up to body temp and sip away.

Yes and I love it!!
As with all my whiskeys I add 1 small ice cube.
Very little diffs to Buffalo. Both nice but Buffalo a tad sweeter (my non bourbon drinking SO picked it up immediately)
Way different to Makers 105

That STR cask is utterly fantastic. The WB Machir Bay is a proper peathead whisky and I've never tried the Birnie Moss, love the Curiositas, so got that for schits and giggles.
