The best whisky is the one you like to drink, the way you like to drink it. Period. If you want to mix a McCallan 21 YO with coke - that's your thing, as long as you enjoy it.

Lagavulin 16 is absolutely FANTASTIC with Coke. I'm not kidding.

Also available to drink at the distillery I've heard. I'm just not a fan of any cooldrinks really...

This sounds interesting is it available in SA?

Might be, couldnt find it when I looked about 2 or so months back.

Sadly Monkey Shoulder has no plans of releasing Smokey Monkey here. I've tried it, it's delish even neat...Very sad :(

I've done Glenmorange 12YO Lastanta and coke before. Let me just say this - it's frigging amazing. It's mellow, sweet and rich. Seriously, frigging amazing. I've found that the lighter single malts (specifically looking at Speysides), like Dahlwhinnie 15YO tend to disappear a bit in coke though. I think the flavours are just too delicate.

Not sure how sweetening the already-sweet Lasanta would work, but to each their own.

(coming from someone who drinks Tullamore and Ginger Ale, BTW).

Any of the peeps here get their hands on a bottle of this from Bottega? It disappeared quickly :(

I managed to get one from Liquor City Claremont. Opening it this evening!!! :D

Edit: Don't think there were too many in the country! I also know Australia got no allocation of the new Kilkerran 8CS 57.1% so doesn't look like we'll see that which is a shame :(.

Edit 2: Bottega has Kilkerran 12 on special at R665, if you like things like Highland Park 12 and Springbank 10 this is well worth a pick up if you don't have to pay shipping. Absolutely stunning all-round whisky for the age and price.

Are you in their gang?

No because their tastings are too far from Durbanville :D and also on a weeknight (I mean it's possible it's just not sensible). I like the store though and there are a few things there that I'd pick up if I had the cash...

Would love to get to taste those, the 2018 Paul John Christmas was great to try!

I'm starting up some tastings in the Northern Suburbs. Those that are interested, PM me please.

Initial impressions for Kilkerran heavily peated batch 2 are wow! Firstly the mouth feel is super rich and oily and the finish is long. Nose is interesting initially got raisens and sweet peat. Palate is creamy, custard cream biscuits, apple and well peat. Comes across to me as somewhere closer to Port Charlotte / Octomore rather than Longrow (not that longrow is far off from those). I'm sure it will change as the bottle gets some air. For the price of under R900 an absolutely amazing deal. If they ever do release a 100% sherried heavily peated that thing will be insane!

This drinks quite easily, had to compare to Springbank 9 local barley and this is just plain old better all round to me but not really 'funky' (yet?). Will have to play with water on the weekend
