Went this evening, very impressive selection, pricing is decent. Had a few drams, owner is really into whisky which helps. :) More impressed than I thought I would be.
Awesome. Anything that stood out? Some rare stuff?

Got the Fino. And since the green Bain's limited edition is a bit of a nothingburger for me I will probably get another Fino or Shiraz cask.

Some nice stuff there. But Haig Club on the shelf?? Jirre.....

Would love to see a pricelist.
It was as thick as a telephone directory. One or two that I remember were Ardbeg Blaaack for example was about R335 for a taste (not that you need to :p ) Dark Cove was more. Hibiki Harmony was R150. I saw one at R1300, but just remember it being an 18 yo I think. Could easily drop a few grand there having a good time

That one Maccallan is this.

Sounds a bit rough....looks like swapping samples and some more "Stokvel" buys are the future.

Serves a purpose for things you can't get or aren't sure you want to drop a large amount of cash on. Also great to have a place that's not a R400 uber both ways away. Could also be a way to start doing whisky tastings up in the North. The venue is nice.

Maybe so, but I tend to look at it slightly differently. I just do not think paying R350 for 25ml solves the problem of "not being sure I want to drop a large amount of cash" ? Because your are paying tripple or even 4 times, what you would pay for the whole bottle per ml.

There are very few bottles you "can't get" nowadays, but those extremely rare ones are just as unaffordable (well to most of us) per "bar tasting" or per whole bottle.

To really enjoy a place like this, you need a lot of disposable cash anyway.

Personally I believe that going to tastings, buying tasting sets online and doing online tastings and sharing Whisky among ourselves is the best and by far the cheapest way to taste as much Whisky as you can.

This is just IMHO, as unpopular as it may seem to be.

My eyes also tend to water at those sorts of tot prices. Especially the kind of stuff I'd want to taste these days.

Really nice venue though. I'd be keen to visit at some point.
