I also dont know R300 scotches, I have tried a few more expensive ones that was not as great as the Trace

I’m not sure what you are trying to achieve here. I’m sure there are R500 Scotch whiskies that l’d rather have over other R1000 bottles.

Case in point, someone gave me a gift of JW platinum which goes at about R1300. Good lord it was awful. The JW black at a quarter of the price is much nicer.

As I said, each to their own.

Jack is not bourbon. Try the Trace again and compare with a R300 scotch. The Trace is also difficult to get but more available than 3Ships bourbon.

Sure. I’ve got more than half a bottle of Trace in my cocktail cabinet. I’ll try some later and see how it goes down.

Not really...I just collect Whisky so always technically have a lot around.

I saw some guy on Twitter moving from SA to the UK a few months ago and selling a lot of his whisky before he left. I’d assume there are all sort of issues taking lots of whisky when you emigrate such as shipping and even import tax implications, and it made me wonder what you were planning when you go? I know you’ve got a big old stash of lots of desirables and collectibles.

Your timing re. this question exemplary...

I started selling my Whisky yesterday as it would have cost me approx. R56k in VAT and excise if I took it all with me to the Netherlands.

Still have a lot to go, but it started off quite well.

Anybody interested in having a look at my list of what is left over, DM me any time.

I almost asked about a Three Ships PX cask, but I might even be in Europe before you so I reckon I'd better just start drinking what I have. Planning to be in Scotland July or August time. Good luck though.

I am only leaving next year August due to school year cycles in the Netherlands. So I'll probably sell half...drink a quarter and take my top 25% collectables over with me.

So should work out 100%...apart from the fact that I cannot/should not buy any more whisky for the next year and a half, that is the biggest challenge.

Haha, I'd imagine there is more chance of a politician being jailed for corruption, i.e. not very likely ;)

Bourbon > Scotch/Irish

Show me a scotch as good as Buffalo Trace for price...
Glen Moray Peated and Chardonnay.
Bell's Special Reserve.

Different flavour profiles but I reach for those over Trace and even Sazerac Rye regularly because I prefer Scotch. And yes these compete now that Trace is nearing R300 a bottle, I'd still spend more and get Bulleit though.
