Ok I see on their site (http://www.kavalanwhisky.com) most of their whiskies has been awarded multiple prizes so I don't need to be that picky, but here's the two I would want:

Have you or the recipient tasted this before? I ask because I have and really didn't like it.

I suppose it is a completely different style, most people who like Scotch won't like Irish. Now this is from almost exact the other side of the globe.

I've had the normal Single Malt (the coffin shaped bottle) which fair, it was very different to what we are used to. Which ones did you manage to taste? I see there are about 20 different ones.

Your personal opinion on Japanese whiskies, something like Nikka? The last thing I want to do is get a Blue Johnny W.

If I may chime in here, haven't had much Japanese whiskey but have only ever heard great things about it (from different people)

I DID enjoy the Kavalan when I had it a few months back and would definitely get it (if there weren't others ahead of it on the queue :-) )

I have some whiskey from Thailand which was rather extraordinary, which my friend gave me after moving out of the country - hence wanting to give him something of similar style. Luckily his bottle was open else he would have moved with it ha ha.

Morning folks

I was wondering, any links to favourite sites that sells whiskey?

I am looking for a special present for a 40th, I specifically want to give him a bottle of Kavalan, either the Solist Vinho Barrique, or the Solist Amontillado.

I tried these already:

http://www.bottleshop.co.za/taiwanese-whisky/ (they have a good couple but seems exorbitantly expensive, almost R300 more than others with similar whiskies)
https://www.aficionados.co.za (supposedly importers/distributors of Kavalan, but they only do the normal one)
https://www.ngf.co.za/catalogsearch/result/?cat=0&q=KAVALAN (even more expensive, but also not what I want)

I know I will way about R2000 so I am not too fussed, luckily I have time on my side so I can shop, even order from an overseas site (though I have no ideas what customs will do to me!)

I am stuck on Kavalan - I mean the mentioned 2 won best single malt in 2015, and 2016 in the world, so not really looking for recommendations on other whiskies.

Thanks!

The guys in Dullstroom. Everyone on this thread has to make a trip out there at some point. 1000 Whiskeys to choose from in the tasting room and just shy of that in the retail shop.

What whisky did they bring out when the bell rang?

Dark art. Kilchoman has a cask strength and some others. Ardberg didn't have anything. I got stuck at kilchoman so didn't get to the nikka 12.
