I had a 1792 Bourbon on Friday night and it was extremely good.

I did not realise it costs R1600 a bottle.

I see Checkers Liquor have the Loch Lomond Single Malt for R229 a bottle.

Anyone here that can recommend trying it out?

Single malt? Doubt it. At that price point it's either single grain or signature, both of which I enjoy.

If you like Bains the single grain is a no brainer. The signature and single malt both have a hint of peat, but nothing crazy.

Aye, might have been the single grain. My bad. Haven't had enough coffee yet

So I bought the Loch Lomond. Morkhans was correct, it was the single grain variant.

Much paler than the Bains and with a slightly higher ABV value of 46% which is pretty strange. Looking forward to tasting it tonight

Ta :)

I see they left the parole band on the Bains I bought a while ago. I promise I didn't steal it! The lady at the till forgot to take it off as she didn't look inside the box when she rang it up :p

So my mates and I had the Glenlivet 18yo on Thursday. Oh my sack that stuff is amazing. We are torn between that and the Glenfiddich being the best whisky our little group has tasted.
We try do two whiskys a month a cheap one (affordable for daily consumption) and a relatively expensive one (we all kick in R250 and buy the best we can).

Glenlivet is surprising me. Never gave it a real chance but will definitely seek out more of it at future shows and tastings.
